This week has been going by slowly. It's been three days since Elizabeth left and I've had no information on how she's doing. Of course we would all be told if someone died but not if someone's injured. I've been staying up late making a plan for me and Elizabeth. The nightmare have been getting worse however instead of Kassie recently it's been Elizabeth. Because of this I haven't been sleeping properly and Emma was noticing something was off.
"Ruby when was the last time you slept?" She asked me on our way back from dinner.
"Uh when did Elizabeth leave again?" I ask
"Three days." She answered
"Yeah that long." I say
"Three days! You need sleep!" She says dragging me into my room and pushing me onto my bed
"No no I've got to make a plan." I say
"Plan what plan?" She asks
"The plan me and Elizabeth have to run away forever and live just us two.I love her so much it's going to be me and her forever!" I tell her
"Alright how about this. Do you have this plan written down anywhere?" She asks
"Yeah in my desk. But you can't tell anyone about it." I slur feeling almost drunk from lack of sleep
"Alright I'll read over and finish it and you get some rest ok." She asks
"Ok ok that's alright I trust you Emma Martin." I say feeling sleep start to take me as I lay in bed. That night I had a dreamless sleep and I awoke again but it wasn't morning. I checked the time and realized I'd slept through the entire day. It was already dinner! I stood up and quickly ran to the cafeteria. I got there just in time and immediately spotted Emma.
"Emma what the fuck!" I say "you didn't wake me up why?"
"Because you were so tired you obviously needed the sleep I just told people you weren't feeling well and needed a day off you welcome." She explains
"Oh... thank you." I reply
"Now I read over the plan." She whispered
"Shh later." I reply. I shouldn't have shown Emma that but it's ok she's my best friend I trust her. We both grab dinner and go sit at the back of the cafeteria. We eat in silence my mind still occupied with worrying about Elizabeth. She was coming home in a day and we would be leaving as soon as we can. Me and Emma head back to my room and Emma pulls out the final plan. I read over it and it's actually really good. She'd rubbed out the parts I'd written while half asleep and replaced them with things that made more sense. The plan was actually pretty simple. Get they key from Mrs Turner, wait in Elizabeth's room for Mrs Turner to be gone. Sneak out to the closest exit which wasn't very far and then once we're out the building run like crazy people. We jus had to take the root without security cameras. Which is actually pretty easy since Mrs Turner turns most of them off at night. We're all asleep and locked in our hall and no one's dumb enough to try and break in. That is if people even know about this place. As long as the cameras didn't see us we wouldn't activate the security alarms and no one would know we left.
"Thank you Emma really." I say
"Of course." She replies
"Do you want to come with us?" I ask I feel guilty having had her made an entire plan for an escape she won't even be part of
"No that's ok I don't want to ruin you twos together forever." She laughed
"I told you about that?" I ask
"Yep you told me all about how much you loved her." She says
"Oh shh I do love her." I say
"You know I've been thinking of running away for a while I might make a plan of my own." Emma says
"Well good luck with that maybe I'll see you agin but for now I think you're the one who needs rest." I tell her
"Yeah your right." She agrees standing up "I'll see you tomorrow. Don't think your leaving without a goodbye." She warns me before leaving. I lay down in bed again still surprisingly tired. After a couple minutes I must have fallen asleep because I woke up again with a start at 5:00am. Another nightmare. I sigh standing up and grabbing some clothes before making my way to the bathroom. After a shower I change into my clothes and brush my hair and teeth before just staring at my reflection in the mirror. If you had told me two weeks ago that in two weeks I'd be here with a girlfriend planing an escape I would have laughed in your face but here we are. If everything goes to plan this will have been my last night here. My last time in this bathroom. I walk out of the bathroom and to the balcony. This will be the last sunrise I ever watch from here. It's peaceful beautiful and perfect. But I think the best place I'm going to spend my last day here is the indoor garden. Elizabeth doesn't get back until this evening so I have time. I sit down at the edge of the balcony looking over the edge. A drop that would kill. No chance we could ever escape that way and I'm pretty sure Mrs Turner designed it that way on purpose. No one is ever suppose to be able to get in or out without permission. But we're going to escape. All we need is a way to get that damn key. I don't know how long I was sat there but later on I hear the doors open.
"Hey dumbass it's almost breakfast what you doing sitting out here for?" I hear Emma calling
"Don't dumbass me we both know I'm smarter than you." I reply standing up "I'm just thinking about how I'll never see the sunrise from here again... the sunrise was probably the best part of this place." I sigh "it's stupid I know but I'm gonna miss this place." I admit
"It's not stupid at all. You grew up here of course your going to miss it whether you like it or not." Emma explains. I hadn't really thought that it was normal to miss a place you secretly hated for so long but the way Emma said it made sense. Whether I like it or not I grew up here it's my home so I'm going to miss parts of it.
"Common how about we go get breakfast then we skip training and we hang out in the garden. You can tell me anything you need to get off your chest. Or we can just talk about anything. I think it's the perfect way to say goodbye. Emma suggests. And she's not wrong it did sound good. So that's what we did. First we had breakfast. Fried egg on toast with oranges and apples. Then we went to the garden. We talked for hours. About absolutely anything. I told her about my plans to find a cottage by the lake, I told her about the cat and dog, I told her how we'll have the best view ever especially during sunrises. Then we went to lunch and had a big lunch of bacon sandwiches and spaghetti with a banana and yogurt for dessert. Before sneaking back to the garden and just sitting in a comfortable silence it was just like old times. When we'd sneak here together to talk or just relax.
"I'm really going to miss you Emma. You were the bestest friend for me." I say dreaming the silence
"I'm going to miss you too. But hey one day I'm going to escape to and I'll come find you. I'll find you and Elizabeth in your cottage by the lake with you golden retriever and black cat, I'll watch the sunrises with you and we'll play in the lake together. This isn't goodbye, It's just see you later." She says. Her words bring tears to my eyes as I pull her in for a hug.
"I've got to go now Elizabeth will be back soon." I say as we pull away
"I'll see you around ok." She replies standing up pulling me with her
"Yeah see you around." I assure. I see a tear in her eye as well as she turns to leave. And just like that she's gone. Not forever though. Elizabeth is going to be back soon though. I walk up the door and towards the entrance. As I get there I see the cars pulling up. There back!
