The Golden Guard's POV :

It had started the first day this strange girl had arrived in the Demon Realm. Before you start, yes, I'm going back to the beginning, yes, this chapter is about me- most of it, anyway- and yes, this starts out as kind of a filler chapter. What am I talking about? I have no idea, but moving on. (A/n: ikr I'm so amazing <333)

What had happened was, the first person who saw her come through the portal was not, in fact, the owl lady, or the other human girl. It was me. I was there.

Just minding my own business, yelling at scouts and coven guards, as I was assigned by the Emperor.

I was standing near an alley entrance, minding my own business and looking for thieves or law-breakers to bring to justice.

I knew the owl lady was in the area, probably breaking the law- but the scouts had that covered, Warden Wrath had assured me. But whatever. That's not the point.

After a while, I got bored, so I decided to check out some of the stalls. I went back into the alley and took off my mask, putting a dusty old cloak over my Golden Guard uniform. I walked around, looking at all the stalls that were running for a while, until I saw the owl lady's stall. I observed from afar, at first, but then saw something weird glowing inside her tent, so of course I decided to investigate. It could have been an illegal magical item- which it was.

I stepped into the tent right as a pretty girl with (h/l), (h/c) hair and (e/c) eyes around (your height) stepped out of a strange looking portal, which collapsed behind her. I barely had any time to hide behind a weird looking bookshelf before she caught sight of me, and thank the Titan she didn't.

After she exited the tent, I observed the portal thing for a minute, and realized it was a portal. To the human realm, as I later discovered, which confused me. If the girl who had come through was from the human realm, why were her ears pointed, and not round, like human ears?

Suddenly, I heard something from the tent entrance, and quickly sneaked out of the back, internally cursing myself for not grabbing the portal thing before I left.

I returned to the castle at the end of the day, wondering who the strange girl from the human realm with pointed ears had been. I decided to study all knowledge about the human realm to try and figure out if humans normally had pointed ears, like witches, and found that they didn't. I also found that there was another human on the isles, and that human had been living with the owl lady for a few days, maybe weeks, now.

She was also a criminal, like the owl lady, as I learned. The new girl, though, had no criminal records thus far, which confused me slightly.

But I found her in the end. The library. She had checked out an excessive amount of books- a reader. Huh. Cute. WAIT WHAT NO IT'S NOT-

That never happened.

Moving on.

(A/n : my siblings are watching Moana rn idk why I felt the need to say that but I did <3)

I decided I was going to find this weird human girl with pointed ears. I needed to talk to her if I was going to get any answers. So I set up some seriously elaborate plot to get her right where I wanted her.

I pride myself in my wit. Well, at least I do now, since I set this up- first, I sent a fake letter to the Bat Queen, asking her to meet with some important official who didn't actually exist, and somehow got her to leave her kids with the owl lady, which would keep her and her bird-dog-rat-thing busy.

I also knew she had errands she could send the human girl on, but was sadly not expecting the other one- who I learned was Y/n- to have to go on said errands as well. But I figured out she was at the library, and decided I would go there, as well, and watch for the perfect time to grab her and ask any questions I needed to.

Well, she got kicked out of the library before I could do that, which was mildly irritating on my part. But thankfully, I overheard that they were coming back at midnight with the Blight's children- the older twins- and so I had that going for me.

It worked out just fine until we fell through the wall, which, of course, led to far worse things.

Back to the present time...

Y/n's POV :

As it turns out, the abyss was not, in fact, abyss at all. It was just really, really, really dark. Like, super duper dark. I couldn't see anything, but I could definitely hear. Goldie immediately shrieked like a little-girl as soon as we fell, which would be funny if I wasn't scared we were gonna die.

We fell for a long time. A full second, before we hit something weird and squishy, which was mildly disturbing, but moving on.

I pulled another light glyph out of my pocket and tapped it, looking down at what seemed to be a giant can of worms we had been sitting on as of right now.

"What the hell-!?" Goldie muttered, looking down at the weird giant worm thing. "Ew. This is disgusting."

"Germaphobe," I retorted.

"I have every right to be after seeing this," Goldie shot back, and I shrugged.

"Fair,"

I studied the ugly worm creature for a minute, looking for its face- if it had one. Maybe it was just like a normal worm, and it didn't have a face at all. But that all depended on what the Boiling Isles had in store for me at this moment- which meant it was completely unpredictable.

After a minute, I found its head. Or what was left of it. The thing had been decapitated, and blue-black blood oozed from it.

"Ya know what, Goldie- after today, I think I'll be a germaphobe, too." I muttered.

"Welcome to the club." he said with a sigh.

I shook my head and turned to him. "Alright. We've established that we landed on a decapitated worm with weird colored blood- now what?" I asked.

"I dunno, I thought you were making the decisions!" he replied.

"Well, I'm out of ideas, so it's your turn," I replied.

"Why does it have to be my turn to make decisions?!" he asked, crossing his arms.

"I told you- because I'm out of ideas,"

"Well, I don't have any either," he replied.

"That's a bit of a personal problem, isn't it?"

"Asshole."

"Loser."

"Bossy."

"Bottom."

"Did you just-"

"Yes. Yes I did."

"I'll have you know, I am not-"

"Shut your trap, Goldie-" I hissed, "Listen," there was a faint sound- like slow music, from a music box echoing through the cavern.

"What the hell is that?!" he hissed back, and I shrugged. The music got gradually louder.

"I dunno, but we're gonna find out soon, I presume."

Suddenly, the music stopped completely. "Haha! I've been lonely for a while now! Finally, some new people to play with!" A high-pitched voice exclaimed.

I turned, trying to figure out what it was, but as soon as I did, Goldie grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the decapitated worm carcass.

"Bad idea," he said, but it was too late. Something else grabbed my other hand, and I felt a strange sensation as my skin began to glow an iridescent blue, and the room faded to darkness.
