Sienna's POV
I roll my eyes and let out a heavy sigh as I slump down in my seat in the middle of English class.
My friends Kane and Dominic sit in the row behind me, and Cheryl sits beside me equally bored out of their mind.
"Ugh, can this class be any more exciting?" I ask, my voice dripping with sarcasm.
Cheryl snickers. "Yeah, I love learning about participles and gerunds," she says, rolling her eyes.
Dominic chimes in, "I mean, who needs to know how to diagram a sentence anyways?"
Kane leans over to whisper, "I'm pretty sure this is what hell feels like."
We all laugh quietly, trying not to draw too much attention to ourselves. But the teacher catches us, giving us a stern look over the top of her glasses.
"Is there something you all find amusing?" she asks, her tone laced with annoyance.
I bite my tongue, not wanting to get in trouble due to the infinite list of responses I could give her. But Kane can't resist. "Just your captivating lecture on subject-verb agreement," he says, a smirk on his face.
The teacher's eyes narrow. "Perhaps you all would like to stay after class and do some extra work?"
Cheryl shakes her head, knowing we need to be careful. "No thanks, we'll pass."
The class drags on, the minutes feeling like hours. I try to focus on the lesson, but my mind wanders. I glance over at Kane, who's doodling in his notebook. Cheryl is tapping her foot impatiently, and Dominic is staring off into space.
"Hey, who wants to skip next period and go get some food?" I whisper, hoping to break the monotony.
"YES!" they all exclaim, relieved to have something to look forward to.
We spend the rest of class planning where to go and what to eat, whispering and giggling like small kids.
"Enough!" The teacher explodes and turns to us. We watch her with wide eyes. Now that was unexpected.
"Detention all four of you!"
I furrow my eyebrows and look at others.
I share the same expression as them. She wouldn't, right?

Hah.
She most definitely would.
As we all sit in detention, I can't help but roll my eyes at the whole situation. "Well, this is just fantastic," I say, sarcasm dripping from my voice. "I always dreamed of spending my afternoon in a windowless room with you guys."
You had it coming. My inner self speaks up.
I frown at that. Well yeah, but I will still complain about it.
Kane laughs, "Hey, at least we're together, right? We can make the best of it."
Cheryl sighs, "I just want this to be over as quickly as possible. I have things to do."
Dominic leans back in his chair, a smirk on his face. "Relax, Cheryl. We're here for a reason. Might as well enjoy it."
I can't help but snort, "Yeah, let's just enjoy getting punished for something stupid."
Kane jumps in, "Come on, Sienna. It's not the end of the world. We'll just sit here and talk like we always do."
I roll my eyes again, "Oh joy. Just what I always wanted."
