Quick note I am using Default Nora and Nate as you see from the last chapter.

"War Never changes"
"You're going to knock them dead at the veteran's hall tonight hun," Nora said to her husband Nate as he looked over himself

"Ya dad you know this speech like the back of your hand," 20-year-old Ember said sticking her head into the bathroom. She unlike the rest of her family had Red hair and Ice blue eyes which she had gotten from her grandparents Nate's Mother had red hair and Nora's father had blue eyes both sets of grandparents were happy when Ember was born with traits of them no one knew where the freckles came from though but they fit Ember so well.

"You think so," Nate says looking at his wife and daughter through the mirror.
"Yes now quit hogging up the mirror," Nora said pushing Nate out of the way a little. Ember smiled at her parents and walked to the front room. She adored her parent's relationship and only hoped she would one day find love as strong as theirs, but for now, she was helping her parents raise her baby brother. When they had first told Ember they were going to have another baby she was a little unsure they were 40 about to be 41 and they were going to have another baby 20 years after their first. But all Ember fears were for not. Both Nora and her baby brother Shaun were fine at the end of the day. He was so small even now. Ember was only going to stay for a year she wanted to see her brother grow just a bit and help her parents out. She had talked her parent into buying a "Mr handy" which was promptly named Cogsworth much to her parent's amusement.

"Ah, Miss Ember Your Coffee is ready just how you like it," Cogsworth says as Ember comes into view.
"Oh thank you Cogsworh you didn't have to make me coffee." Ember says grabbing the steaming cup of lifeblood and sitting at the counter.
"Well, I was already making your mother some so I fingered I would make yours as well while you were getting ready for work. One less thing for our FBI agent to do in the morning." Ember gave a laugh at that, her parents and even Cogsworth had been proud of her when she got the job as an FBI agent the next town over. She had only been on the job for a month now but she enjoyed it very much. Before long Nate and Nora were out of the bathroom drinking their own coffee. There was a knock at the door and Ember looked over her shoulder out the window.

"It's the Valt Tec people again."
"I'll see what they want," Nora said placing her coffee down "this is the 3rd time they have sowed up this month" Just then Shaun started to cry Cogsworth went to deal with him but Ember followed.

"Ah Miss Ember I have young Shaun," the robot said
"I know I just like being around him you know" she waves her fingers above her brother and he starts to calm down as the robot changes his diaper. The young boy soon lost interest in his sister and started to cry again "I think he may want mom why don't you go get her while I try to calm him down Cogsworth"
"That is a good idea I think he may need some of that Maternal instinct" before long Nora and Nate walk into the nursery to help with the baby. They give their daughter a smile as she macks small faces at her brother as he slowly calms down now that there here.
"Before long he's not going to want us he has going to want you." Nate says with a small laugh at his daughter.

"Ya well I can only be so lucky and hope my baby in the future is like Shaun and only cries when they need something." Before the parents could respond to that Cogsworth called out to the family.
"Sr, Mum, Miss You should come see this!"
"Cogsworth?" Nora called out as Ember picked up her baby brother and made their way to the front room.
As they made their way out of the room they could hear the Tv that Cogsworth had turned up slightly
"- followed by...yes, followed by flashes, Blinding flashes. Sounds of explosions... We're...We're trying to get confirmation... But we have seemed to lose connection to our affiliate stations... We do have...coming in... confirmed reports, I repeat confirmed reports of nuclear detonations in New York and Pennsylvania. My god" Then the tv cut off.
"Oh my god mom dad" Ember looked towards her parents holding her brother to her chest before either could speak sirens started to go off. Nate ran to the door and flung it open "Come on we need to get to the Valt!" he yelled ushering his girls out of the house

Ember looked towards the Mr handy robot in sadness thinking this would be the last time they saw him "Cogsworth stay safe" and then ran out of the house after her mother. She heard a faint "I will Miss" before they were too far away Ember tuned out all the camoshen and just focused on her mother and Father in front of her and the ground she was running on. She was not going to let her brother die before he could live. Soon they were at a gate with the military checking off people. Ember could hear the Valt tec Rep yelling at the guard before he ran away and her mother got in front of the guard.
"We need to get in, were on the list"

"Infant ... adult male... adult female ok go on though" Ember's heart sank she wasn't on the list with her family.
"No no there's two female's me and my daughter" her mother shouted Ember shook her head slightly and grabbed her dad's arm. He looked at her and she handed him Shawn much to his confusion. She wasn't going to be the reason her family died. If she was fast she could make it home to Cogsworth then they wouldn't be alone when it happened.

The guard looked at his list aging the family only had down 3 people but he saw what the girl was doing and he KNEW there was an open pod as the owner had died 3 days ago and they hadn't assigned it to anyone else, anyone willing to sacrifice themself for their family deserved the empty pod in his books it wasn't her fault the eggheads in the company couldn't read. "Here she is she was down further all of you go in fast up the hill"
"Thank you, sir," Nate said pushing Ember through the gate

"Good luck sir, and God help us all"
They Ran up the hill and stepped on the platform Ember huddled close to her parents as Nora through her arms over her daughter and looked at her husband and son. "we're almost there are you guys ok" Nora asked
"We're ok everything is going to be fine. I love you" the next moment there was a defining explosion and bright light out of the corner of Ember's eyes. A bomb had hit the platform started to drop and they just barely missed the shock wave as the vault started to shut.
"We did it we're ok," Nora said looking at her daughter and husband.

"Hopefully all that noise didn't hurt Shaun's ears" Her own ears were ringing slightly but to her shock when she looked towards her brother he was asleep in her dad's arms "you're kidding me he fell asleep while we were running" the people on the elevator looked at the small baby with small smiles, although they had lost their homes they where happy to see the small family of 4 made it into the vault Shaun's birth had been a big celebration on the block Ember let her mind wander as she followed her mom. She thought about what life would be like in the Vault and how she was excited to still see Shaun grow into a wonderful man. She was handed an outfit in a bag it was blue and brown with big yellow numbers on the back 111. Before too long she and her family were bright to pod-looking things. The man they were following pointed to Ember "You will be in this one" he pointed to her parents and brother "you three will be down at the other end"

"Why are we apart from each other," Nate said looking at the doctor"
"Dad it's fine we are here it's safe," Ember said she kissed her sleeping brother on the head and gave her mother and father a hug. "I'll be right by you when they unfreeze us. Then we can be a happy family when it's safe" her mother ran her hand over her cheek and smiled at her then followed the Docter to the other side of the room. Ember changed her clothes not embarrassed to change in front of the people in the room she liked her body and wasn't embarrassed by it. She got into the pod and one of the people walked up to her.
"We don't have your name miss"

"Ember, Ember Jones. I'm the daughter of army Vet Nate" she pointed to her dad who was getting into his pod with Shaun in his hands the person nodded their head and wrote something down and backed away. Soon the lids of the pods closed, and a countdown started. What felt like just moments later Ember could hear talking. She couldn't make out most of it as it was farther down, but she heard a baby crying and the only baby to her knowledge in the vault was Shaun. Ember started to bang on the glass then to her horror a single shot from a gun went off. She started to scream and hit the glass harder after a few moments someone walked by with a familiar baby in their arms "Shawn! Hey, you fuckers where are you taking my brother! What did you do to my Dad!" but they paid her no mind. A man walked by and turned to her.

"She a cutey you sure we can't take her as well," he said to the one on the terminal.
"No, we have our orders just the baby" Ember continued to hit the glass screaming for her brother, but the people reactivated the pods and she soon fell unconscious once again.
