"Black! Parkinson! Will you pay attention!" Professor McGonnagals voice rang out throughout the Transfiguration classroom.
Both the girls groaned as their conversation came to a stop.
They were talking about who they thought would get with who within the next few years. The pair seemed to not agree on many except for one: Daphne and Rowan.
Daphne often spent her afternoons with the boy and every time she spoke about him her eyes were full of love and her cheeks turned into a bright shade of pink.
Amelia thought that it was disgustingly cute.
"Now that Black and Parkinson are kind enough to listen and pay attention." McGonagal said, who shot them an angry look. Amelia smiled at her innocently.
"I have something to say to you all."
Everyone listened intently to what she was about to say; each of them were wondering whether or not it had something to do with the event Dumbledore had spoken about.
"The Yule Ball is approaching, a traditional part of the Triwizard Tournament and an opportunity for us to socialize with our foreign guests. Now, the ball will be open only to fourth years and above, although you may invite a younger student if you wish..."
Lavender Brown, a Gryffindor, let out a shrill giggle. Parvati Patil, also a Gryffindor, nudged her hard in the ribs, her face working furiously as she too fought not to giggle.
Professor McGonagall ignored them, which Amelia thought was distinctly unfair, as she had just told off her and Pansy.
"Dress robes will be worn," Professor McGonagall continued, "and the ball will start at eight o'clock on Christmas Day, finishing at midnight in the Great Hall. Now then..." Professor McGonagall stared deliberately around the class.
"I hate wearing dresses." Amelia complained to Pansy.
"I doubt it'll be much worse then the Pureblood parties we are forced to go to." Pansy sighed. "You've gotten to miss out on loads. Lucky git."
Amelia smirked knowing it was true. Since her grandmother had been locked away for an unknown reason, nobody could force her to go to them.
"The Yule Ball is of course a chance for us all to - er let our hair down." she said, in a disapproving voice.
Lavender giggled harder than ever, with her hand pressed hard against her mouth to stifle the sound.
Amelia could see what was funny this time: Professor McGonagall, with her hair in a tight bun, looked as though she had never let her hair down in any sense.
"But that does NOT mean," Professor McGonagall went on, aware of the students giggling, "that we will be relaxing the standards of behavior we expect from Hogwarts students. I will be most seriously displeased if a Gryffindor or Slytherin student embarrasses the school in any way."
