Chapter 9

**FLASHBACK
It has been two days since the party. Luke hasn't been sleeping in his room, not that I watch him it's just -okay I watch him, but who wouldn't? We haven't seen each other never mind talked. Actually, come to think of it, there has been no sign of intelligent life in the Hemmings home if any, at all. I have been bossed around the house by none other than my birth mother to do chores. It has officially been the worst two days of my life. Today counting as the third.
"TODAY I DONT FEEL LIKE DOING ANYTHING I JUST WANNA LAY IN MY BED!"
"Lily, you are going to pick up your clothes or else!" Dang flabbit Jackson. Hesitantly, I do as I'm told. The only one good thing that has come out of these past couple of days is that my room is even more spotless. Whoopedy doo. Time check. It's nine in the afternoon! Seriously that late? Boo, you whore. I skip down the stairs and rummage through the kitchen for dinner. I guess I can settle down for a turkey sandwich. I take my dinner up to my room. Delicious, I should become a chef. Ooh with my own talk show and everything! Then, I can travel around the world and taste test foods and be fat without people judging because that's my job. Okay, I'm done with you sandwich. Let's see if I can throw this paper plate into my trash can.
"Can she make the life or death shot? It's now or never. She shoots! She doesn't score! It's a no from Simon Cowell." I talk to myself. Yawning, I change into my pajamas and shut the light off. I jump into my bed, cuddling underneath the covers. Out of nowhere, my heart skips a beat. Luke's bedroom light is on. I can't see too well maybe I should crawl by the window to get a better look. Ninja style, I get on all fours and peak through my window. I can hear quiet sobs. Oh no this can't be good. Just because I'm mad at the guy doesn't mean I'm not sympathetic. I take a closer look and can see he's on the phone. I can't quite make out what he's saying though its sort of all fuzzy. Like in those Charlie Brown cartoons when the parents talk. I think Luke is done with the conversation when he throws is phone at the wall. It shatters and he cries even harder. Shoot, I should go see what's wrong. No, I must stand my ground because I can't give in. He was the one who started all of this controversy. Whatever, I have a heart. BARELY! I pull on a hoodie (it is a little cold at night, believe it or not) and tell my mom I am going over Luke's house. She doesn't mind. Honey badger don't give a crap. I quietly try to open his door, but I don't have I try too hard because it's unlocked. Luke can't hear me apparently because he continues throwing a tantrum. I'm making him sound like a little boy. Awe. Anyways, I creep up the stairs (I'm a natural, who would've guessed?). His door is open, but he doesn't notice me enter. I lean against the doorframe, watching Luke for a good minute until he sees me. He wipes his eyes, sniffling a bit. "Are you okay?" I face palm. "That was a dumb question sorry of course you aren't okay. Luke, what happened?"
"A-Aleisha b-broke up with m-me." His voice is raw and vulnerable. She broke up with him? She broke up with him! I'm going to hell for that. This is not the time for celebration, Lily!
"I'm really sorry, Luke." I sit down on his bed and pat a spot where he sits down next to me. I hug him. He rests his head is on my shoulder.
"What's wrong with me?" Luke muffles into my sweatshirt.
"What's wrong with you? You mean what's wrong with her? Who would break up with such a nice, sweet, funny, talented, caring, comforting, fun-" I start listing with my fingers.
"I get it." He lifts his head off of me and smiles, but I continue.
"Gross, annoying, boyfriend." I sarcastically say, so Luke will laugh. It works and I grin.
"Sorry, you shouldn't have to see me this way." He gestures to his face.
"But you're pretty when you cry."
I giggle, referencing to when he comforted me when -I cried. Luke rolls his puffy, red eyes at me.
"Thank you."
"It is my pleasure."
"No, for coming over here."
"Oh, no problem." You would've done the same, I think. I hope. It gets quiet.
"Luke, listen, the past few days have been the worst and most utterly boring days of my life." He nods. "I also want to um say sorry."
"For what?" Luke, are you stupid?
"For um kissing your bandmate and giving you an attitude." I almost whisper. My head is down. Luke sighs. His finger lifts up my chin, so we are looking at each other.
"Lily, you did nothing wrong."
"Yes I did Luke!" I stand up. "I was dared to kiss the hottest boy in the room and I kissed your best friend!" Why am so emotional? No, it's not a good look, losing self control. Lily, you need to focus for once in your sad life. "We both know who I like and it God damn sure isn't Ashton and if that doesn't bother you, I- I don't know what does." I can't even feel the tears that are currently running down my face. "I was saying sorry," my voice cracks, "because I was jealous okay? I was jealous of Aleisha who is gorgeous, perfect, taller than me and probably nicer! When you had to do that stupid dare I cried. Why do you think I was in the bathroom so long? When I was dared, the first person I was going to kiss was you! I couldn't do that though because even though I highly dislike Aleisha, I'm a decent human being. Plus, that would be embarrassing and I wanted to somehow make you jealous. As if you actually cared about me that way anyways, so I kissed Ashton in the spur of the moment! That is why I'm sorry!"
"Aleisha and I broke up for a reason, Lily. She broke up with me because she thought I wasn't paying attention to her. Which is true because I was and am so distracted with you."
My breath hitches in my throat.
"Really?" It comes out as a whisper.
"Really." Luke confirms. I can't help, but smile. I regain my confidence.
"Distracted in a good way, or?"
"Haven't made up my mind yet." He jokes. "With that. Being said, Lily Valentine would you like to go on a date with me? I know this isn't the most romantics scenario, but-"
"Hemmings, I'd love to." Luke is taken aback by how fast I react. He smiles back at me. This is perfect.
"Tomorrow sound good?"
"Sounds great. I should probably go home before my mom thinks you've murdered me or something."
"True. Goodnight, Valentine!"
"Night, Hemmings!" I start leaving.
"Wait! One more thing, I forgot!" Luke calls. I turn around and his lips crash into mine. The sudden action takes my breath away, for real. The kiss is sweet and gentle, not like my first one. I pull away, blushing, I'm sure. "Am I better than Ashton?" Luke smirks at my expression. Oh my baby lord Jesus, yes. He doesn't need to know that just yet though.
"I never kiss and tell."
