Averie was walking down the hall, her head burried in a chart when someone grabbed her attention.

"Excuse me," he said.

Averie looked up, meeting a pair of very familiar blue eyes.

"Kelly?" she questioned, noticing the teary eyed look he head.

"Averie? You- you work here?" he questioned, brows furrowing as he tried to wipe away the tears.

"I started as an RN a few weeks ago," she explained.

"Wow," he mumbled.

"Do you know this kid?" she asked, motioning to the burned kid in the room infront of them.

"He- he was in a fire I was at. How's he doing?"

She glanced down at the chart. "He's critical. We're not hopeful," she shook her head sadly, placing a hand on his arm. "Here," she pulled a tissue from her pocket and handed it to him.

"Thanks," he nodded at her. "I guess I'll see you around?" he asked.

"Yeah," she nodded as he started to walk away, stopping himself.

"Do you- do you know how old he is?"

"Ten."

Kelly nodded to the girl who walked away to another patient.

Averie looked up from the nurses station, seeing Kelly standing infront of the patient's room again, staring at the sobbing parents.

"Hey, Kelly," She grabbed his attention. "I was gonna call you, but I didn't have your number- anways," She motioned toward the room. "He- uh- made a turn for the better," she softly smiled at him, "parents have been crying with joy for ten minutes," she explained.

He let out a breath of relief. "Hey Ave," he called out to the nurse, who turned back to him. "Why don't you stop by this bar later. Molly's. To catch up?"

"Sure," she handed him her phone, "Just text me when," she smiled at him.

Averie walked into Molly's spotting a familiar face talking to who she assumed to be a co-worker of his.

Smiling softly to herself, she knocked on the table next to him after his friend left, making him jump.

"How are you doing?" she asked softly at him.

"Fine," he said simply. "So how've you been through the years?"

"That's a long story," she reminded him.

"I think we've got the time," he told her with a smile, motioning to the beer bottle across from him.

-

The two spent hours catching up. Talking in the bar. Averie finished her drink, holding it up to her friend.

"I'll be right back," she laughed.

Standing at the bar while she waited for the bartender to make her a new drink, a green eyed man stood next to her.

"I haven't seen you around here before," he stated. Averie turned toward him, smiling at him.

"Just learned it existed," she replied.

"Jay Halstead," he introduced, reaching out his hand.

"Averie Fields," she shook his hand.

"So Averie Fields, what do you do?" he asks.

"I'm a nurse at Chicago Med. How about you?"

"I'm a detective," he replied.

"Well, detective, I've got a friend waiting for me. I assume you come here often?" she asks.

"Yeah, I do," he smiled at her.

"Then I'll find you the next time I'm here," she smiled at him, brushing his arm as she takes her new drink back to her table with Kelly.

"Yo, Severide," Otis called out when Kelly walked into the common room, dropping his preperations for Boden's wedding in favor of talking to him, "Who's the smokin' girl you were with last night?" Cruz looked on in anticipation as Mouch and Herrmann laughed.

"Averie?" he clarified, "A girl I dated in high school. I just found out she's back in the city."

"Dated? As in past tense? So you're not sleeping with her now?" Cruz asked.

"No," Kelly laughed. "I'm not sleeping with her."

"So do you-" Otis started.

"Aw boys, I think you're too late. You didn't notice how she seemed to be having a nice time talking to Halstead at the bar?" he asked.

"God," Cruz groaned. Kelly just laughed.
