Chapter Sixteen: Quiet Time

(Damian's POV)

I hear muffled yelling and the sound of rain all around me, but I see only darkness.

I can't tell if I am standing at the moment.

A loud bang suddenly makes me aware of my surroundings around me.

I rise on my knees to see humans fighting hand-to-hand with APEX soldiers with two of them beating a Tiger to death with the butts of their rifles.

I feel something grab me.

Fighter: "Get up! We have to get out of here!" He yells frantically and runs off.

I stand up and grab the rifle covered in the mud and run forwards with him, and notice an Abrams Bearclaw engulfed in flames as a Canine Anthro tries to climb out of it, yelling while the fire burns him.

I aim my rifle at him and fire to end his suffering with a single shot to the head, causing his body to go limp.

I feel my heart racing as rounds continue to snap over my head as others run toward the gunfire.

The shouting continues as others rally together to keep the assault going.

I rush around a destroyed bus and see APEX units fighting humans close up with one of them scratching at the throat of one causing him to stumble back and collapse.

I aim at the one who killed the human and fire three times and then run toward the others to get the Anthros off them.

But someone runs into me pinning me to the side of the bus.

A female Lynx bears her teeth at me as we both grab onto the rifle trying to rip it away from each other's grasp.

Lynx: "Let it happen you bastard!" She shouts as I push into her causing us both to fall to the ground with me on top of her.

I quickly draw my knife as she grabs my wrist and rips down to slice at my flesh, causing me to grit my teeth in pain as I plunge the knife into her side.

She gasps and I draw back the knife again and stab her in the side repeatedly while yelling indistinctly in anger

I stop as I feel her grip on my arm become limp as her hand falls to the ground, and I hold the knife at my side panting as I try to catch my breath.

A red glow illuminates the area around me and I look up to see three flares gently falling from the sky. I hear the shouting and cheers of humans around as a familiar song starts to be sung.

FIGHTERS: " We fight for the brigade, we fight for humanity! The beasts nevermore come to rest!" They shout causing it to echo around the area as the fighting becomes more intense.

I turn to see four humans wearing different camo jackets, while one is covered in blood and his mask lenses are cracked. I feel something make me freeze as I stare at them.

I feel my breathing become rapid as a sharp pain hits me in the side as a fall off the corpse of the Lynx and lay on my back with rain being the only thing I feel as my vision fades.....
