"Bloody hell!" Elaine exclaimed, shrinking into herself in an attempt to regain some of the warmth that had just been stolen from her as a burst of cold hit her in the back. She might've preferred cooler weather to hot weather, but freezing was a completely different story. Powdered snow now ran down the line of her safely concealed spine, it's compact ball form having broken upon impact. She whipped around to glare at the perpetrator, her own secret weapon grasped in her hands, concealed by her jacket.
December had finally come. The dungeons were colder than ever, leaving the Slytherin students with the need to bundle up even in their common room. Although they couldn't see the grounds from their common room, as soon as they exited the dungeon, white was painted across all the windows. It had snowed overnight, the Hogwarts ground now a winter wonderland.
"Take that you gremlin!" She launched the snowball she held in her hands at the noirette fiend who dared to attack her.
Cael screamed as the snowball made contact with his chest, stumbling back as if he had been pierced by an arrow. A tanned hand reached out from next to him, and against his wishes, rather than steadying him, the hand pushed him backwards. He fell to the ground with an indignant squawk.
"Aleeeex! That was meaaan!" He whined, sitting up in the snow, rubbing his head.
Alex snorted and shoved her hands into her pockets, "Good." Fiona held a hand up to her mouth to conceal her laughter.
Elaine smirked and placed a hand on her hip, "Not a fan of payback?"
"It's no fair! You girls have it out for me..." He mumbled in mock sadness.
Fiona pouted, "But I haven't done anything."
"Don't give me that look, Fifi. Your giggles show me where your loyalties lie," he dramatically flopped back into the snow, "Traitor!"
Alex rolled her eyes, "You're such a drama king." She kicked at his side lightly.
"No I'm not!" He denied the statement, bracing his hands on the ground and sitting back up.
"I'll die before I believe that," Elaine quipped. She sighed and walked up to the boy, reaching out a hand. "Come on, get up."
He grinned mischievously and took her hand, pulling her down and scrambling up off of the ground. "Ha— Take that! OW—"
He got cut off by Alex repeatedly assaulting his back with punches. "Hey hey stoppp—"
Fiona giggled and helped Elaine off of the ground while Elaine mumbled about the cold, brushing the snow off of her clothes. Fiona placed a hand on Alex's shoulder, "I think he gets the point~"
Alex huffed and glared at him, "He better." Cael held his hands up in surrender which Alex smirked at.
The group all laughed together, the white snow surrounding them glistening from barely visible sun's rays.
"What're you all doing for the holidays?" Fiona smiled, tilting her head.
Elaine shivered from the cold, "I'll just be going back home to spend the holidays with my family."
"Same here," Cael replied, nodding.
Alex's smirk had fallen, her face taking on a flat expression that Elaine couldn't quite read. "I think I'm just going to stay at Hogwarts."
"Oh? Really? Are you sure?" Fiona's eyebrows creased with worry.
"Yeah, seems like it'll be a different experience so. I don't know, it just sounds fun." Alex glanced off toward the ground.
