It was another slow day at the "cuchara caliente" as usual. (y/n) stood behind the counter, fiddling around with the refrigerator hinge that for some reason decided today was a good day to jam. (y/n) was used to this, the café was old and worn, sure it added to the charm, but it carried along disadvantages of its own. (y/n) finally got the hinge to snap into place when she heard the twinkle of the bell, informing her that a customer had walked in.
"I'll be with you in a second!" She spoke out as she finished up with the hinge.
"No worries" a male's voice spoke back.
She glanced back and quickly examined the customer. He was an older male, with a scruffy beard mustache combo and disheveled hair. Usually the only people who came to the café this early in the morning were businessmen, but he didn't seem like a businessman. He was wearing a casual white tee and a cardigan-- not the usual suit and briefcase get up. He seemed preoccupied on his phone, but then again, they were in LA, she'd be lucky if he bothered to look up to order.
She made her way behind the cash register.
"Hello welcome to 'Cuchara Caliente', what can I get for ya?" She spoke for the 100th time, almost as if the phrase was her second nature.
The man typed away on his phone.
"Just a black coffee.."
He looked up
"...please..."The man looked up and gazed at her. For a moment, in her eyes, had been almost a different universe. Her aura was enchanting, and for a second he forgot where he was and what he was doing. He was quickly snapped out of his trance.
"Sir? Are you okay sir?" She looked at him with a genuine concern.
"Oh, yeah sorry, there's just a.."
Think quick
"-there's a bug in your hair-"
"Oh haha well, -wait, what!?" Her look of concern contorted into relief and quickly regressed into concern again.
"-A BUG?!" She began swatting at her hair, trying to get rid of the bug that unknowingly go her, was nowhere to be seen.
The man quickly realized the undue stress he has caused and reached out at her, pretending to pick out and flick something away.
"Ope, well, it's gone now, you're good..ha"
"Thank God." she sighed in relief.
A silence took over the café, as (y/n) began realizing what an embarrassing situation it was for a customer to have to pick a bug out of her hair.
Meanwhile the man was thoughtful, why did he completely stop what he was doing simply by meeting her gaze? Was he interested? And why did he have to resort to such a stupid spectacle to avoid his obvious interest in her?
"So..uh..plain black coffee?"
"Yes! Uh, yes..thank you"
"That'll be 2$ please"
"Here you go" he handed her the two 1$ bills and went to sit at one of the various empty tables.
Meanwhile (y/n) got to work on the coffee, hoping the embarrassment would wear off.
Eventually, the coffee was given to the man and he smiled a quick "thank you" and dropped a tip in the empty tip jar.
The man left the café even more confused, and for some reason, that coffee was the best coffee he had ever tasted.
Meanwhile, (y/n) was left curious of the man. Did he see how embarrassed she was? Did she play it off well? For once, she hoped she wouldn't have to see that customer again. Her eyes glanced down at the tip jar and back up at the clock. Wait. She double took back to the tip jar.
A 20$ tip????
For a 2$ coffee???
