A/B: guess what this week is? Finals week :( sorry I'm a little caught up with studying. Sorry this chapter may be a little boring
The Doctor and Rose trudged through the city, coughing as smoke and dust filled the air.
"I don't see her. How about we help out at the Towers?" The Doctor suggested.
Rose coughed, "You're crazy." Reluctantly she followed him. As they approached the two burning structures. the smoke and dust got thicker with every step closer.
The Doctor's respiratory bypass kicked in but Rose was hacking and wheezing.
"Just a few more minutes okay. " the Doctor glanced at her before he grabbed her hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze.
Only a minute later did Rose stop in her tracks and started choking on the dust.
"Almost there Rose!" The Doctor screamed over the roaring flames. He scooped her into his arms and turned her face towards his body. He broke into a sprint towards the scene.
He approached s firefighter, who was standing by a fire engine fiddling with a hose.
"I need help! My friend is having trouble breathing!" The Doctor practically screamed at the poor man, in a proper New York accent.
"Sir calm down. I will go get her some oxygen." He said, pushing the Doctor down on to the side of the fire truck.
"Please hurry!" The Doctor begged, looking down at Rose who had her face in his coat.
Without hesitation the firefighter raced to go get Rose oxygen.
He returned about a minute later with two oxygen masks and handed them to the Rose and Doctor.
Rose, who was still sitting in the Doctor's lap, gratefully took the mask and slipped it on. The Doctor eyed his for a moment but reluctantly put it on.
"Have you practiced speaking in an American accent?" The Doctor asked, speaking in his natural English accent.
"Yes but I'm not very good." Rose admitted.
"That's okay." the Doctor said before he went back to focusing on breathing.
"I'm going to ask if I can help."
"No, Doctor! you'll get yourself killed!"
"I will regenerate." The Doctor reminded her. He picked up a stray jacket that was hanging off the edge of the fire truck and slipped it on. He wandered around the truck. When he returned to Rose's side he had an oxygen tank on his back.
"You will stay here." He ordered her. Rose rolled her eyes but she leaned back on the side of the red truck and crossed her arms over her chest. The Doctor slipped the oxygen mask over his head and adjusted it so it was comfortable. He turned on his heel and sprinted away towards the towers, becoming lost in the sea of firefighters. Rose growled, but no one heard it over the roar of the flames. Rose watched as firefighters entered the building with oxygen masks on there face. Some exited with their masks over a victims face. The victims were over the firemen's shoulders taking gasps of air.
Rose pushed free strands of hair out of her eyes. She couldn't stop thinking about the Doctor. She wanted to help. Did she want to help the Doctor or help the trapped people? This thought races through her mind. It took Rose a few minutes to to weigh the positives and negatives until she came to the conclusion.
She got up from her spot and searched for gear. She wandered over to the next fire truck. Nothing. She grunted. The heat around her was intensifying and the smoke was becoming thicker. She began coughing. Suddenly her vision became blurred and she lost consciousness.
The Doctor had made his way to the 3rd floor of the south tower. The smoke was thick and he could barely see his own hands. Everything around him was charred if it wasn't covered by flames. He kicked down doors and screamed to anyone who might be inside. If there was no response he would move on to the next room.
He was on the 5th floor checking for people. He kicked down the door and screamed "is there anyone in here?" He waited a second. A faint cry could be heard from the very back of the room. The Doctor scampered in, almost getting caught in the growing flames.
"HELLO?"
He heard the high pitched sound once again. He followed the sound to a corner. There was a small boy huddled in the corner of the room.
The flames were inching closer to them. The heat was intensifying.
The Doctor took off his oxygen mask and put it on the boy, who was crying hysterically.
"It's going to be okay." The Doctor assured the boy. He nodded and the Doctor picked him up. The child's small hands grasped the Doctor jacket. The Doctor's gloved hand caressed the back of the kids head. the Doctor made his way past the yellow flames and out the door.
They were on the third floor when suddenly there was a loud explosion and the force of that blow caused the Doctor to fall back against a wall, knocking the child out of his arms. The Doctor's world went dark.
