A/N: the ending to the last chapter made me feel like Steven Moffat. I'm sorry.
The Doctor felt his hearts dropping. A tear slipped down his cheek. He knew that people had died but he had hoped that he could have at least saved one life. He closed his eyes.
"What's your name?" The paramedic asked the Doctor.
"John Smith." The Doctor answered.
"Did you get the name of the child?"
"...no..." The Doctor wiped a tear away.
"H-how many dead so far?" The Doctor's voice cracked.
"Around 200."
The Doctor used his good arm to brush his hair out of his eyes.
"Come on." The Doctor didn't put up a fight. He let them put him in an ambulance. He just sat quietly with Astrid in his arms.
"We need to get your shirt off." Thomas said.
The Doctor grunted. One paramedic took Astrid away so the other two could work his cast off. That part was easy but then they had to get his clothes off. They unbuttoned his suit and somehow managed to get that off without causing the Doctor pain. Then came the shirt. The Doctor's breathing hitched when they moved the arm.
"I know it hurts." Jimmy said. He was gently holding the Doctor's arm.
They worked his good arm out of the sleeve then finally the bad one. The Doctor breathed though the pain.
"All done." Thomas said, holding up the blue shirt so the Doctor could see. The paramedics resumed tearing his injuries. They worked quickly, starting an IV and getting vitals. He laid there quietly until they brought out a stethoscope.
"Can I listen to your heart and lungs? " The paramedic, named Thomas, asked. Most people would say yes.
"N-no." The Doctor stuttered.
"No? Why?"
The Doctor didn't think he would need to explain himself. He thought hard and quickly. No excuse came to mind. One paramedic gave Astrid back to the Doctor. She laid curled up next to him, below the ribs.
"What's our ETA?" Jimmy called to the driver.
"5 minutes." The driver called back.
"Come on just a quick listen?"
The Doctor shook his head and Thomas gave up. He put the stethoscope away.
"We'll be at the hospital soon."
"What's going to happen."
"You may need a surgery to fix that arm. Your radial head is overlapping."
The Doctor sighed. He flinched in pain.
"Does breathing hurt?"
"Yes."
"I can't give you any medicine. Take short breathes."
"Listen, I have a friend. I don't know where she is. She was outside when I went in. She may have gone in after me. Do you know where she is?"  It hurt him to talk but this question was too important."
"Well someone will find her. Everyone was evacuated, moved back, when the towers collapsed."
The Doctor groaned. He felt the ambulance slow to a halt. The doors opened and 2 nurses grabbed the stretcher and emptied the ambulance. Someone grabbed Astrid.
"what's your name?" The person asked,
"John Smith," the Doctor answered, not even noticing that Astrid wasn't laying by his side anymore. He heard Astrid bark and he noticed what hs happened.
"HEY MY DOG!" The Doctor yelled, "where are they taking my dog?"
"He's being taken to an animal shelter about a block away. He will be there when you are released."

They rushed him into the emergency room where there were 100's of injured people. Most of the people in the halls were people with minor injuries. Some cuts and bruises. There were families, holding each other weeping for their deceased loved ones. Doctor's were rushing out of rooms and entering other rooms nearby.
The Doctor was rushed into a room with about 3 other patients. Their entire being was covered in blood. The doctor with a medical degree rushed over to The Doctor.
"I have a friend! Rose Tyler! I need to know if you have someone here called Rose Tyler!" The Doctor flinched.
A pretty young nurse was walking by the room. She stopped when she heard the name. Chelsey scrambled into the room.
"did you say Rose Tyler?"
The Doctor looked up at her.
"Do you know her?"
The doctor with a medical degree gently pushed him down.
Chelsey rushed to his side.
"Yes I'm her nurse! What is your name?"
"John Smith."
"She's been worried sick about you!"
"Oh my god!" The Doctor wiped a tear of relief with his good arm, "when you see her again... Tell her that I'm okay. What happened to her?"
"She was unconscious. Smoke inhalation."
"How could it be smoke inhalation? She had a mask on!"
"I have to examine you now. Chelsey go tell his friend that he's fine." The doctor sounded annoyed.
The young nurse nodded with pleasure and scurried off.
Rose was reading an American magazine when Chelsey entered her room with a smile spread across her face.
"What's the smile for?" Rose asked. Her heart thumped in her chest with hope.
"Your friend. He's alive."
A/N: hey! Sorry it took so long to update. Only a few more chapters left. I'm excited to finish this! It may take a little longer to update because I'm starting school. I'll try my best though.
