It has been about three weeks since the assassination attempt. Although the entire castle was shaken due to the attempt, people started getting over it. Henry was still under recovery.
“In about a week , your hand should be good as new My Lord”, said Thomas , the physician as he examined Henry’s hand.
“Well it better be, I can’t wait to go jousting. Sitting on this bed all day for weeks is making me go mad”, said Henry.
“I don’t suppose it is advisable to go jousting immediately after recovery.”, said Mary .
“It is indeed true My Lord.”, said Thomas.
Henry rolled his eyes with a sigh.
“You are not a child Henry, so do not act like one.”, said Mary.
“Very well. Thank you for your assistance Sir Thomas. Would you mind handing me the glass of water Mary? “, said Henry as Thomas left the room.
“Sure”, said Mary as she handed him the glass of water.
Henry lifted his hand to take the glass of water but shrieked loudly in pain.
Mary’s eyes widened as she turned pale.
“Are you alright?, Do you want me to call the physician?”, said Mary.
Henry looked up and chuckled.
A wave of relief swept over Mary followed by anger.
“I HATE YOU HENRY!! why would you do that! You scared me to death”, said Mary as she threw a pillow at Henry.
“It is so easy to deceive you Mary “, said Henry as he dodged the pillow.
“I am leaving”, said Mary as stormed towards the door.
“Next time you come visit me, get me some Marzipan , would you”, said Henry.
“I am no house maid”, said Mary as she left.
Mary stormed out of Henry’s chambers. Although she was mad at him, she could not help but smile. Over the past few weeks Mary barely slept. She assumed it was because of the assassination attempt but, deep down she knew that it was Henry’s condition that kept her awake. She kept visiting him every day. Although the physicians kept updating her about his health, she had to see for herself every day to make sure he was alright. This incident showed Mary how strong her feelings towards Henry were.
Mary bumped into Laura as she walked through the corridors.
“Oh Mary, I was looking for you”, said Laura.
“Is everything alright”, said Mary.
“Yes , nothing is wrong, it’s just that Philip left to Arenia. He left in a hurry, so he could not bid farewell but he promised to write a letter as soon as he reaches.“, said Laura.
“Oh that’s alright, I will write to him”, said Mary.
“Where are you headed from?”, asked Laura.
“I was just visiting Henry”, said Mary.
“How is he doing? I’ve been meaning to visit him but my duties have kept me occupied”
“Oh he’s doing well enough to make fun of me”, said Mary rolling her eyes.
“Oh so that means he is doing well “, said Laura as she softly chuckled.
“The physician said that he would recover completely in a week”, said Mary.
“That is a relief. With Philip gone and Henry injured, the castle suddenly seems so cold and unwelcoming”, said Laura.
“It’s alright. Henry will be back to normal in no time and Philip promised to write to us.”, reassured Mary.
As Mary and Laura kept strolling through the corridors, a guard approached them.
“Lord Balmont has sent this scroll your grace.”, said the guard as he handed the scroll to them.
“I hope this letter finds you in good health. The assassination attempt has shaken everyone in the castle. We are organising a jousting event hoping to cheer everyone up. It would be a pleasure if you can attend”, read Mary
“ Please inform Lord Balmont that it would be our pleasure to attend”, said Laura.
The guard quickly bowed to the sisters before leaving.
