A few months passed by since the king’s death. The nobles have been managing the state affairs . Mary and Laura have been managing the duties of the House Rosario. It was quite draining for both the sisters but it was important that they kept up with the other nobles to survive.
The biggest misconception in the court is that everybody thinks that the powerful houses have nothing to worry because of lands and titles  given to them by their ancestors would secure their place at court, but in fact, the powerful houses are the ones which have to be more cautious . Every land and title they own earns them a considerable amount of new enemies.  Their every second , every move would be watched. People plotting against them, waiting for one wrong move which could drag them down to dust.
Mary was in her chambers, when Laura burst open the doors.
“ I am sick and tired of everyone bringing up marriage prospects.  I understand that we must find an advantageous marriage to secure our safety, but I have always seen marriage as something more than a mere alliance between two people which would grant an advantage for both the families”.
It was true that both of them had to look for suitable suitors to secure an alliance which would protect them and their House . All their life the sisters were told that they needed a man to secure their positions at court. However both of them never agreed to that.
“Who was it this time ? “, asked Mary without lifting her head up from the letter she was writing to look at her sister. It has become a sort of ritual for Laura to receive marriage prospects. This was the fifth alliance Laura was offered this month .
“The Duke of  Havik”
“ Isn’t he too old to get married?”
“He was not looking for a bride, he was looking for a mere care taker for his children and a claim to the throne.”, said Laura.
“ I am guessing you rejected the proposal”.
“Of course!” , said Laura as she took a seat beside Mary who was still busy with her letter.
“What about you?”, asked Laura holding back a smirk.
“What about me?”,asked Mary as she finally lifted her head from the letter, giving her full attention.
“ Have you thought of any marriage prospects yet ?” , asked Laura.
Mary could sense blood rushing to her cheeks as she turned away from her sister .
“No, not yet”, said Mary in a quick and firm tone.
Laura stared at Mary for a few seconds trying to read her sister’s expression before she stood up to leave.
“Very well, see you at supper.” , said Laura before she left Mary’s chambers.
Laura noticed that something was odd about Mary’s response but she knew that Mary trusted her more than anyone else on the earth. She was sure that if Mary had someone in mind she would have shared it with her. She brushed it off as she walked down the corridors to her chamber.
