Laura rushed to Mary’s chambers and knocked on her chamber door.
“Mary, it’s me Laura, can I talk to you?”, said Laura.
Mary was hoping to see her sister, engaged. She asked the guard to open the door of Laura.
Laura quickly rushed to Mary’s side.
“Mary, did you know about the proposal?”, asked Laura.
As much as she did not want to lie to Laura, she promised Henry to keep her knowledge about the proposal a secret.
“Which proposal”, asked Mary.
“Henry told me that you knew about the proposal”, told Laura.
Seeing no other way, Mary accepted the fact that she knew about the proposal.
“Yes, but what happened, you look pale and sick”, said Mary.
“Why has no one told me about this? Mary you could have told me. I would have had time to think it through. I was dumbfounded at the sudden proposal. I never knew Henry was considering me a marriage prospect.”, told Laura.
“So, you rejected the proposal?”, asked Mary, confused.
“Of course I did, it was a huge decision and I was not prepared to take it” , said Laura.
Mary sat beside Laura as she comforted her .
“It’s ok, you do not have to feel bad, whatever the decision was, it was YOUR decision and that’s all that matters”, said Mary.
“ ....Is Lord Henry alright? “, asked Mary.
“ He did look very pale and grief stricken, I really hope he is alright”, said Laura.
After comforting Laura, Mary went to look for Henry. She knew how bad the pain of rejection would be and for a person like Henry it would be very difficult to handle such a grief. She spotted Henry in the corridors.
“Henry! I just came to check on you, are you alright?”, asked Mary.
“I do not know, but I have to attend an important meet, please excuse me”, said Henry.
Mary knew that Henry was trying to cover up the fact that he was completely heartbroken by distracting himself with work. She decided to step out of his way to give him some time.
Later that night, Laura and Mary were chatting over some wine.
“Mary, do you think I took the right decision?”, asked Laura.
“Laura, as long as you are ok with it, I don’t mind if it is the right decision or the wrong one”, said Mary.
“Lord Henry is one of the most eligible suitors. Most Ladies dream of courting him for his power, his wealth, his status, but none of that matters to me. I have always dreamt of marrying for love, and he valued that. He seemed very genuine, but I think he is careless and doesn’t take his duties very seriously. How am I supposed to trust a person who doesn’t take his duties seriously, to take care of me and possibly the kingdom of Balanova . The person I choose as my husband has to be a person eligible to take care of our people, our country.”, said Laura.
“ What if he is willing to change? Lord Henry may seem to act carefree and playful, but when it comes to his love for you, it is completely genuine and his is willing to change and mend himself into a person who would care for you and the kingdom of Balanova.”, said Mary.
“What are you suggesting sister?”, asked Laura.
“I think you should give Lord Henry a chance. He is worth a chance, to prove how capable he is as a lover and a king”, said Mary.
“What if this is wrong Mary, that would not only put me, but the entire kingdom into danger, if i were to marry him”, said Laura.
“Laura, we know Henry since years, he is a good man, he risked his life to save us, save you, that shows how much you mean to him”, said Mary.
“I am starting to believe that he could be a possible suitor, but I am not sure Mary”, said Laura.
“Laura, please trust me, he is the right suitor, please give him a chance, to prove his love towards you”, said Mary.
“I need sometime to think it through”, said Laura.
“Of course, whenever you are ready”, said Mary.
