Laura could not sleep that night. The decision was going to take would determine the future of Balanova. She thought of all the times Lord Henry expressed his love for her. How much she meant to him and how he was a good leader and was not afraid to throw himself before danger to protect her.
She came to the conclusion that she should try to give Lord Henry a chance.
She told Mary about her decision. Although it stung Mary, she could only imagine how happy Henry would be and she trusted him to prove himself.
Laura’s guard approached Henry and gave him a letter. Henry opened the letter to find a map.
“FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS ON THE MAP”
He followed the directions which led to the Grand Hall. He opened the door to find Laura, standing in the centre of the hall, sun shining beautifully behind her as she stood in a soft lavender gown. Henry approached her as they both were standing in the centre of the hall.
“Lord Henry, your proposal was quite lovely, lovely enough for a Lady to fall in love with you, but it’s your charm, your humour, your bravery that made me fall in love , as to my response earlier, I must apologize . Now to answer your question, Lord Henry of House Oakwood, YES, I would be more than happy to be your wife and walk the path of life along your side”, said Laura.
Lord Henry’s eyes glowed with joy. He felt like the luckiest, happiest man on earth.
All the Lords and Ladies inside the Grand Hall broke into cheers. Everyone was happy for the new couple. Laura searched for Mary in the crowd. Mary gave her a reassuring smile. As soon as all the guests went to congratulate Laura and Henry, Mary rushed out of the Grand Halls fighting back tears. Although she was happy for Laura and Henry, her heart was completely shattered. All those tears she tried to hold in burst out. She ran towards a balcony as she continued to cry. Just then someone handed her a hand kerchief. Mary turned around to get a proper look at the person. She turned around to find a young man.
“I see you crying at your sister’s engagement, but those tears do not look like tears of joy to me”, said the man as he spoke, his accent slightly different from native Balnovans’.
Mary accepted the kerchief from him. As she wiped off her tears, she told him what happened. She needed a friend at that moment.
“You cannot change what happened. You deserve better. The next time you shed a tear, make sure the person you are shedding the tear for is worth it”, said the man.
Although it was not easy as it seemed, Mary found those words comforting.
“ May I know your name?”,asked Mary.
“ I am Sir Richard Francis, diplomat from Harvemia”, said the young man.
“Please to meet you Sir Richard , I am Lady Mary of Rosario”, said Mary.
