"Congratulations, Ms. L/n you've got the job." The pudgy man in front of me spoke looking down at my papers. "To be honest, you are overqualified for it. But if it is truly what you want, it's yours." The principle stood to shake my hand. And I stood to meet him. "Thank you so much!" I spoke with a little more excitement than needed. But it was deserved as I had finally landed my dream job. Now I know working as a school nurse isn't exactly what everyone thinks would be amazing and perfect. But it is for me.
"You'll start on Monday. Come, I'll show you around the school. There have been a few changes since you have gone here."
We walked down the halls; making idle chatter about the weather and how things have changed. The halls seemed different. Smaller. I can remember walking through them every day feeling so intimidated. "What do you think, Ms. L/n?" Shit, I spaced out. I turned my head to the older man beside me. His toupee was slightly placed on his head wrong. Just smile and nod.
He nodded his head back at me. "Good, I'm glad you think so. It is where you will be working and spending most of your time. So, we try to make our school as comfortable as possible, for the staff and students." Oh, he's talking about the school. Okay, you got this Y/n. Just pay attention. I nodded my head again. "Well, I can confidently say that the goal has been achieved." I laughed a bit trying to shake off the earlier nerves and excitement. "When I was a student and even now it was always enjoyable here. Even if most of my time was spent in the nurses office helping out Mrs. Sasaki."
We walked down a set of stairs, still talking. Oh no. I bit my lip, trying not to laugh at my new boss and old vice principal as his gray toupee bounced when he went down the steps, showing his bald head underneath. It reminded me of that one story Daichi-Kun told me. When a few of his first years knocked the now principal's toupee off with a volleyball, and it landed on his head. A slight snicker left me, and he paused and quickly turned around, giving me a stern look. I coughed slightly, covering my mouth with my hand to hide my smile. Don't laugh, please don't laugh.
He turned around and continued on. Walking down the hall of the lower level a while and stopped, so suddenly I bumped into him. Backing up, I bowed slightly and apologized. "It's alright. It was my fault for stopping so abruptly. But we are here now." He gestured to a closed door that I remembered to be the nurse's office from all my visits. He stepped forward and opened the door for me.
The light of a setting sun shined in from the two big windows at the wall facing the door. Two beds sat side by side with curtain dividers. Just like I remembered. Minus the plain walls... I looked around the room again and took a step in. Walking to the desk, I placed my hand on the top of the swivel chair and pulled it back. But I can spruce them up. I turned the chair and sat down facing the principle. "I think I'm going to really like it here." A slight smile pulled at his lips. "I'm glad. It's a pleasure to have another one of our former students on the staff." She snapped her head to look up at him. Another? Huh, I wonder who it is. I should ask. "Ah, wh-" He interrupted her, looking down at his watch. "Well then, sorry to cut this short, Ms. L/n, but I have a meeting I need to get to. You can look around the school if you want. Get a refresher, relive old memories." He started walking out of the room at a quick pace, trying to make it in time for his meeting. I followed behind him and bowed at the door, thanking him once again.
