I had just told Liz everything. She was shocked.
"How did I never find out about this?"
She asked. I could see the tears welling in her eyes at the memory of her dad. She must have really loved him. I pulled her into my chest in a big hug, trying to comfort her, let her know that I'm here for her and that I won't let anyone hurt her. She started sobbing, hard. I could feel her whole body shaking with each sob.
"Sh, it's ok, baby. I've got you. It's ok."
I picked her up and carried her upstairs to her bedroom. It was getting pretty late now. I was going to have to go meet Dan soon. I laid her down on her bed, and started to walk away, but she caught my hand and tugged me back.
"Stay."
She pleaded. I could hear the sadness and fear in her voice. She looked like a frightened little child. So defenseless, and innocent. So I laid down on top of the covers and wrapped my arms around her. I did something that I haven't done in years. I sang. I got softer and softer, until she fell asleep. As she was falling asleep, I whispered "I love you, Liz."I admired her for a few minutes before I looked at the time. I better get going so I'm not late meeting Dan.
*30 minutes later at the meeting place
Dan walked up, followed by three other men.
"Where's the delivery, Styles?"
"Right here."
I waved the box.
"Alright then, here's the money."
He handed me a brief case, and I opened it, checked to make sure all the money, and only the money was there. It was. But something didn't feel right. I brushed it off, saying I was worrying about nothing. I handed the box to Dan, who opened it up, and went through the same process as I did with the money.
"Thanks, Styles. I'll be seeing you."
He said with a mischievous smirk on his face. I walked away, getting back in my car. I still couldn't shake that feeling though.
"I'm just being paranoid."
I thought to myself. I drove back to my flat. Once I was in, I took some of the money out of the brief case for myself, and hid the rest. I then checked my messages on my phone. One from Liz. I quickly opened it.
From: Liz-
"Where are you, Harry? I woke up, and you were gone. I can't sleep. I'm scared."
To: Liz-
"Be right there, babe."
She didn't reply. I was starting to get worried. I drove as fast as I could to her flat. It was very dark outside. I quickly hopped out, and ran inside, locking the door behind me. There wasn't a single light in the house on.
"Liz?"
I called. No reply. Now I was really worried. I frantically ran to every room in the house, searching for her. Nothing. I had one more room, her bedroom. I opened the door slowly. It was pitch black in her room. I flipped the light switch. And almost had a heart attack. Liz's phone was lying on her night stand. Her bedroom window was open. There was a trail of blood on the floor. On top of her phone was note. It read-
"Oops. Looks like I lied. I've got your little princess. Want her? Come and get her. -Dan."
