“So this is the mansion where they went missing?” You look around the entrance expecting to see damage everywhere. Instead, you see a well-kept living room. The television looks to date back to 2020. “It doesn’t look very abandoned if you ask me.”
Aizawa’s voice echoes through the air. “Keep your eyes peeled. We are here for a reason.” Aizawa takes the lead and walks deeper into the living room. “There are flashlights in the bag if needed, Yin.”
You follow Aizawa into the room, and your eyes search and scan for anything out of place. Your tired brain can only look at so much, though. Your eyes wander to the couch: It looks almost brand new. You grab a flashlight and shine it on the settee, searching for a tag. A few minutes of searching pass, and you finally find it. “2027?”
“What was that, Yin?” Aizawa appears next to your side.
You shine the light over the tag and allow Aizawa to read. “The tag reads 2027, but Mr. Gou said this house has been abandoned since 2025.” You look up at Aizawa. “So, either Mr. Gou lied to us, or someone is still using this house and just hasn’t cleaned in a while.” You stand up and shine the light around the room. “Maybe even a week. This entire house looks like it hasn’t been abandoned for ten years. Nothing is damaged. Nothing is covered in thick dust. Nothing looks out of place either.”
“What about the other rooms?” Aizawa peers into another room. “This mansion is huge, yet, he only allowed two people to investigate. Suspicious if you ask me.”
You peek into the room Aizawa is looking in. A long hallway with multiple doors appears as your light hits them. You duck under Aizawa and slowly creep into the hall, shining your light along the walls. You stop walking when you feel a tug on the backpack. Moments later, a second light shines through the hallway, and the sound of a zipper echoes off the walls. “The energy in this place is comforting. If someone were dead, we wouldn’t feel this safe.”
You can feel Aizawa’s eyes stare at yours. “What the hell does that mean, Yin?” He shines his light at you, not blinding you but still bright.
You hum while thinking of a new way to explain yourself. “If a person died in this house, their spirit would either be stuck here, or they would have moved on. A gut feeling of ‘terror’ would have washed over us. That has yet to wash over me, and it doesn’t seem to have hit you, either.” You shine your light on the floor. “So, since we’re assuming that no one has died, their souls must still be trapped.”
Aizawa finished your sentence. “Along with their bodies.”
*Snap!* You snap and point to Aizawa. “Exactly. Someone either learned rituals or someone's quirk allows them to form out-of-body experiences. Hopefully, it’s the first one. I know how to deal with rituals.”
Aizawa shines his light on the walls, examining the wallpaper. “How many times have you dealt with ghosts and spirits?”
“Too many times.” You shine your light through the door window. “Is this the kitchen?” You turn to face Aizawa, waiting for him to prepare himself.
He shines his light through the window. His taller frame allows him to see inside easier. “It looks like a kitchen. An old-fashion kitchen, at that.” Aizawa slowly opens the saloon doors, careful not to hit anything on the other side.
“An old-fashion kitchen in a modern house? What the hell did money man put us up to?” You shuffle under Aizawa and step into the kitchen. A weird stench fills the air causing you to flinch. “Dear lord, what is that smell?” You activate your quirk and cover your face with your blood.
Quirk: Blood Searcher. By having at least one drop of someone else's blood in your system, you can listen to their heartbeat and/ or blood circulation. You can also manipulate their blood for a short amount of time.
Aizawa covers his face with his hand and shines his light around the room. “It smells like old food.”
“Or dying animals. If this kitchen is old-fashion, wouldn’t their way of getting food also be old-fashioned?” You back out of the kitchen and deactivate your quirk. “Let us walk around the house and open some windows. Some fresh air would make searching this place easier. Once we are done with that, we can go to my office. I need sleep, and you can get updated with some information.” You pause before shining your light down the hall. “Or get some sleep as well. I would like to be here at night. Souls are more active at night.”
Aizawa sighs and leaves the kitchen. “You’re insane, but if that's what needs to be done, so be it.”
“Great! Let's stick together and open up the house, starting with-” You shine your light into the kitchen. “-This room.”
