Chapter 5~ the awkward dinner

It wasn't much longer until all of Evie's possessions (which didn't count up to much) were dropped off. Along with all her clothes and medicines her pet chinchilla name Paris was dropped off which made the place seem a little more like home. She slowly began to sort things out, wheeling from box to box, looking through all her things. She took her soft toys and placed them on the corner of the bed against the wall. She had to fold her clothes as she couldn't quite reach the hangers in the wardrobe. Before she knew it her two small boxes of possessions were put away and she was left to think in her lonely room. She looked at her clock and found it was only five so she had another hour and a half until dinner. She decided to take a look around her new home with her spare time. She peeped into the large kitchen to see a middle aged woman stirring a saucepan. 'That must be the cook' she thought and slowly wheeled down the hall. Soon she came to a large wooden door and opened it slowly. On the other side was a beautiful lush green garden with well kept hedges and grass. She was about to wheel herself forwards when she realised that there were only stairs to get down and no other way to the beautiful scenery. She sighed, looking longingly at the garden before wheeling herself inside and taking another look around.
As she took another look around she began to wonder who would replace Molly who was her personal assistant at home, or if she would even get a replacement. She could already tell Kaiba wasn't planning to put a lot of effort in to make the marriage work and she was sure he wanted it to end in disaster.
As she wouldn't go upstairs she soon found herself heading back to her room but by then it was already six so she decided to wait in her room for her to be called for dinner. She filled Paris's (or pari as she often called him) food dish and watched him chitter and eat with a smile. At least he would provide some company for her whilst she was stuck here. She began to think maybe she could buy her own apartment with the money the McCay mansion would get here. Although she couldn't be employed so that money would only last her so long what with all her medicine and hospital bills.
Suddenly there was a knock and a young women opened the door. "Miss McCay? Dinner is served in the dining hall" she informed and stepped back in order to let Evie pass. Evie followed her to the dining hall where Mokuba and kaiba were already sat, kaiba on his phone. To Evie's relief They were served a stew or broth of some sort, something Evie identified as comfort food. They sat in silence, Evie eating half of the stew, Mokuba devouring bowl after bowl but kaiba never ate. He absentmindedly moved the broth around in the bowl whilst on his phone but the food never touched his lips.
"So Evie, how are you finding your new room? Has all your stuff arrived?" Asked Mokuba once had finished his third bowl.
"Yes thank you" she smiled and the youngest and warmest brother. "I have a chinchilla called Paris if you'd like to visit him you're very welcome-"
"No" the cold voice rang out from the head of the table. Evie looked up to see kaiba glaring at her.
"Why not?" Mokuba complained, a hint of whining in his voice.
"I don't want that thing biting you" kaiba explained.
"He won't bite, he's very gentle and clean" Evie tried to reason but she knew it futile.
"He belongs to you. I doubt he's clean" kaiba snapped and Evie put down her spoon, no longer in the mood for broth. Mokuba to looked down almost sadly at his bowl. He had hoped that since his brother was indeed marrying this women he's be warmer towards her. His hopes were broken. Evie cleaned her mouth with her napkin and began to wheel out of the room. "Excuse me" she sighed and left without anther word.
"I have work to do" kaiba stood and stormed out, leaving his cold broth behind. Mokuba sighed as he watched the engaged couple go their separate ways...
