He was bored. That was for sure. He had been standing around for the past hour, making light conversation with others but not really interested in what they had to say. He was looking for one man to talk to. Mr McCay. He owned the second leading electronics company in the world, just under Kaiba corp and Kaiba wanted to merge to the two companies together. At a price mr McCay had told him. But Kaiba was worried, he had all the money in the world (or so it felt) he could give him any price he asked for. He had not seen him yet and there was talk he was not coming and had to stay at home to look after his daughter. His blue eyes scanned the gathering of people as he gripped a champagne class in a soft hand. He had never liked social events, especially ones with people like this, every company owner important enough was invited with Old but rich business men with young women on their arms, obviously only after their money. 'Gold diggers' Kaiba thought as he watched a women in her twenties tottering by with a man in his eighties. As he was about to give up hope and leave Kaiba saw the back of Mr McCay. Wait, was it him? Or was a just going made from fatigue? He strutted forwards to confirm his suspicions.
"Mr McCay?" He asked, interrupting his previous conversation. Mr McCay was a short, rather plump figure with grey hair and a grey moustache. His eyes were a warm, kind brown and he seemed like a very fatherly man.
"Ah, Mr Kaiba, my dear boy" Mr McCay chuckled. Darren McCay saw Kaiba for what he was, a young man in his twenties trying to live normally and be happy. not what everyone else saw him as, a rich and completely happy man.
"I'm here to ask you about the terms for the merging of the companies?" He asked bluntly and Darren McCay smiled.
"No dawdling with you is there?" He chuckled softly but felt disheartened at kaiba's serious face. "Let's go somewhere, a bit more private" he said, beginning to head inside of the great house the party was thrown in. They sat in the corner of what looked to be dining room, both of them either side of a chess board.
"The terms?" Kaiba pressed as McCay got settled into his plush chair. McCay was by now a frail old man with little energy left and probably little years left as well.
"I understand you are..very interesting in buying my company from me Kaiba, but I will not accept any money for it" he stated and Kaiba looked confused. No money? What else could he possibly pay him in?!
"The price may come as a shock" McCay said slowly and Kaiba scowled, unsure what to make of the situation.
"Look, if you're not going to-"
"Marriage" McCay interrupted and Kaiba stopped dead in his words.
"What?!" He asked, eyes wide.
"To my daughter" McCay clarified but it did not help Kaiba's state.
"You want me to Marry your daughter for the company!!?" He asked, standing up quickly.
"I realise it's a big price to ask" McCay admitted. "But I want to know someone will look after her when I'm...gone" he said sadly.
"You're a pathetic fool if you think I'm going to marry your daughter" Kaiba spat. True he had never actually met mr McCay's daughter but marriage was not something he was agreeing to anytime soon, to be stuck with someone his whole life!
"I'm afraid it's that or nothing young man" mr McCay sighed as he stood. "And I'm afraid I've for another young lad asking for the company as well."
"So your handing her out like old meat?!" Kaiba asked and McCay shook his head.
"He's a lovely young chap, has a way with words" he admitted but stopped when he saw kaiba's unimpressed face. "I just wanted you to know the price" McCay admitted and Kaiba sighed loudly.
"And you won't accept any money?"
"Not a dime" 'maybe I could marry her then get a divorce? Then own the company and she could do whatever the hell she wanted, I don't care' Kaiba thought to himself.
"I'll meet her" Kaiba admitted slowly and McCay nodded.
"Drop by tomorow, around 12. She should be up by then" said McCay kindly. So she was a lazy ass too? Kaiba thought as he nodded. Who woke up at 12?!
The rest of the evening passed with no other shocks and Kaiba went home before the fireworks went off, already bored out of his mind.
The next day he was driven to the address mr McCay had scribbled down last minuted on a piece of paper for him. It lead him to a small mansion, about half the size of kaiba's so looked pretty puny in his eyes. When he stepped out McCay was already at his doorstep, waiting for the young millionaire.
"You're looking well" McCay nodded and Kaiba grunted.
"I didn't come here to be flattered" he stated and McCay nodded uncomfortably.
"Well, let's go inside then. I'll just go and fetch Evie" he smiled as he held the door open for Kaiba. It wasn't much warmer inside as it was out since it was September and was beginning to turn colder and darker. Kaiba half expected a stupid, blonde to appear when McCay came back or even a downright ugly girl. What he did not expect him to return with was a pretty, natural looking women with auburn hair and fantastic green eyes....in a wheelchair with a nasal cannula stuck to her...
