"Hi" she croaked out in a weak voice. Kaiba couldn't do anything but stare. This man was asking him to marry this women?! Sure she was attractive but...god dammit she probably couldn't even stand.
"Can I have a word?" Kaiba asked rudely to mr McCay, already beginning to walk away
"Kaiba-" McCay started when they entered the kitchen
"Who the hell do you take me for?! Is this some sort of sick joke to you?! That women's in a wheelchair!" He growled lowly,
"I'm quite aware of that young man! She's my daughter, i won't have you disrespecting her!" Called mr McCay and Kaiba scowled.
"So she can't even walk?" He asked venomously and mr McCay shook his head.
"No, she can walk. She's recovering from a serious illness, she's been going to and from hospital for the past 3 years now." Mr McCay sighed,
"So thats why you want someone to look after her" Kaiba recalled.
"She's a frightened young women mr Kaiba. I need someone that can provide a roof over her head, food and medicine" mr McCay said seriously and Kaiba crossed his arms.
"Do you have a contract of marriage?" Asked Kaiba and mr McCay nodded, almost sadly.
"Yes, I'll fetch it now" he sighed and walked out as Kaiba sat at the marble work surface. He heard voices outside and presumed mr McCay was talking to his daughter. He looked around rudely to find there wasn't a lot in the cupboards. Small amounts of tinned food and pasta, not like his stocks at home (which he hardly ate anyway). McCay came in as Kaiba sat himself back down.
"This place is next to empty" he stated and mr McCay looked shocked for a second.
"Yes, I'm afraid I'm not doing so well, Evie's medicine has drained most of our money I'm afraid" he confessed and Kaiba scowled. "Anyway, here's the papers, take as long as you need to read over them" he said, passing some papers to Kaiba. "I'll make some coffee" McCay said as he put the kettle on.
"Please, don't" Kaiba half begged, seeing McCay was using freeze dried coffee. The bane of his existence.
"I'm afraid my Evie is feeling a little weak today, she's just popped back to bed. Maybe another day you'll be able to talk to her" McCay promised as he made only himself some coffee.
"Mmh" was all Kaiba replied. He never intended to talk to this women more than needed. He just wanted to marry, get the company and divorce. As he read through the contact he felt....unwell to say the least. No mentions of sex or children but it seemed McCay had got the best lawyers in the world on this paper. Every loop hole he could think of divorce was ruled out, only Evie held the power of divorce if she was truly unhappy. Maybe if he was harsh enough to her she would divorce him? It was either walk away hands empty or sign the contract and risk being stuck to her forever. He chewed the pen he held (a habit he thought he had kicked a long time ago but still onto him from when he would think hard as a child). He heard McCay chuckle and Kaiba sent him an icy glare, feeling like a child struggling with homework.
"Kaiba, you don't have to decide here and-"
"I'll do it" he said, not wanting to seem like wuss. He signed quickly (much to McCay's surprise) and handed it back to him, with a blank expression.
"Well I'll let Evie talk to you before she-" before McCay could end his sentence there was a loud scream upstairs of a female. The two men jumped slightly at the sharpness and suddenness of the wail of pain.
"Ow!!! Make it stop! Please!" She sobbed. Mr McCay rushed out, leaving an awkward Kaiba behind. He waited for a few minutes and the wailing stopped, leaving the large house in a creepy silence. He headed out the door when he heard footsteps coming down the stairs.
"I'm sorry about that, Evie was...." McCay trailed off when he saw the 'I don't care' look Kaiba was giving him. "When she's awakes again I shall give her the papers to sign" McCay said sadly and Kaiba nodded sternly.
"I've wasted enough time here" Kaiba noted turning away and heading for the door
"Good day to you to mr Kaiba" McCay sighed, as if he had given up being nice to the Young rich man heading out of his front door. As usual the limo was parked outside waiting for Kaiba. It was warm in the limo and Kaiba settled down in the back seat comfortably. 'I'll work from home today' he thought to himself, not wanting to brace the cold outside and annoying-ness of his staff. He scowled deeply as he thought about the blood freezing scream that had come from Evie earlier. What sort of pain did a person have to be in to make that kind of noise?!! He remembered the time he had had to stay awake all night when Mokuba got a stomach bug. He just hoped he wouldn't be expected to do the same with Evie, because god knows he wouldn't.....right?
