"I love coming to the library to see girls stressed. It's a wonderful feeling knowing I don't have to put a lot of effort in. I'll probably win by landslide." Rosalie gloats.
Irritation sparks within me the more she continues talking and bragging. Rosalie is indeed very lucky. She has always seemed to get excellent grades without having to study, or at least that is the persona she has created for herself.
"You shouldn't assume anything," I snap, my eyes flashing to hers. "Being cocky isn't a good look on you."
Rosalie's mouth falls open. "How dare you!" she retorts, narrowing her eyes on me. "Like you have a chance! You're raised by someone who failed miserably, so who says you won't do the same thing?"
Anger burst in me. I clench and unclench my hands, taking a deep breath as I attempt to smother the rage that's climbing within me. "You don't know anything," I growl. "Leave her out of this."
Rosalie laughs, throwing her head back. Her two companions giggle too, although they've stayed quiet. "You actually think you have a chance, Mila?"
"Everyone does," I state, squaring my shoulders. "No one has an advantage here."
"So you believe."
She's not worth it. She's not worth it. No matter how many times I chant that in my head, it doesn't calm the storm brewing inside me. She's wearing the same white clothes and haircut everyone else is. She's wearing the same veil. So why does Rosalie believe she's better than everyone else? If that's the case, would she be here right now?
"You will go to Kilmy when the boats fly," Rosalie snickers, shrugging her left shoulder. "Your flaw will prevent you from winning."
I try to push down the doubt that begins creeping up on me.
"You know only two can go, right?" I question, tilting my head slightly.
For a brief second, puzzlement crosses her features. "Yeah, so?"
I gesture toward her two friends. "So who are you hoping will come with you? Since you think you're one hundred percent going, who do you want to experience Kilmy with?"
Rosalie's cheeks turn a bright red as she glowers at me.
"Let's go, Mila," Dyna finally speaks up, gathering her things. "Let's get out of here."
Rosalie slaps her hand on our table. Someone from a few tables over shushes us, but Rosalie ignores them, as always. "You aren't better than me! No one does" she says.
