Summary: Skeppy has a monster under his bed that just...won't go away.

...

There is a monster under his bed.

Skeppy knows its there. He knows of the two glowing eyes that just dart out of his peripheral vision after he is tucked in bed and wished good night. He knows of its shadowy figure that stretches out from under the bed when he's alone—with only the nightlight to help him and the sheets that laid over him like armor.

He has pleaded for his parents to check under the bed, only for them to find nothing there. Skeppy has even looked himself, and found no shape of any creature. He hears his parents say that he'll grow up.

He wished that was true, but as he grew—the monster did too.

It stayed.

It was sometimes in his closet. Sometimes, he dangle a hand or foot from the edge and he's felt a clawed and brush against the dangling limb.

(When he's mentioned it to his friend, Vurb, he joked about it stealing Skeppy's toes. Maybe he should sacrifice Vurb to the monster.)

He'd kept the nightlight on no matter how old he was. He didn't care if he was teased about it. He hoped for the day he could save enough money to move.

Maybe then, he could finally be at peace.

Of course, it was not the case.

Somehow the monster had found him and made his new bed its new home.

"Oh that's just fucking great." He hissed at the space under the bed, "am I stuck with you everywhere I go?"

Of course, there were times where he slept over at other places, and those times he didn't have this monster following him around.

Maybe if he kept hopping around, it would finally leave him alone.

But if he did, there's no doubt that the monster would figure it out. It would only be a matter of time.

He suppose he was stuck with it. Great.

"You're supposed to be a fairytale," he grumbled, "just a dumb story to get kids to be good. I'm not a kid anymore for fuck's sake!"

Of course, the monster would not respond back.

It never does.

...

He wasn't the only one that grew up. The monster seemed to become a bit more mischievous. Things that were accidentally slid under furniture disappeared—even if Skeppy knew it went under those spaces.

So every time he lost something, he cursed the monster for it.

It was way to put something to blame, a reason for why things don't come back—even if they weren't always true.

From what he knows, the monster does not follow him out in public.

Still, it's a nice way to cope being haunted by a monster under his bed all his life.

Even if the monster doesn't really scare Skeppy anymore, it's just annoying to have to keep the bedsheets close and the nightlight on so the monster wouldn't stray far from under the bed or the closet or wherever the fuck it was.

It's also annoying to go to the bathroom, running for his life and jumping back into bed. He knows it chases him because he hears the scrape of claws outside his door and white eyes glaring down at him once he's in bed. Skeppy would grin every time and stick his tongue out at it.

Beat that, he thinks.

And sometimes he SWEARS he feels something brush against his feet—and the shrieks he lets out is too embarrassing to admit. He would flip onto the bed with a groan, wrap himself up in blankets and glare at white eyes curled up with mirth.

Then he flips it off and it glares at him again.

The monster couldn't do anything when there's nightlights and blankets.

So when he gets the idea to put them everywhere, he does so. He has a nightlight for every room and keeps the lights on for when he works late nights.

The electricity bill may have shot up, but it's a price to pay when you're trying not to die from some boogeyman.

"Have you tried talking to it?"

Skeppy gives Finn an exasperated look.

"What am I supposed to say?"

"How am I supposed to know?"

"Ask it if it likes toes" Vurb butts in, causing the other two to groan.

"I'm not asking if my bed monster likes toes, Vurb," Skeppy rolled his eyes.

"I mean from how it keeps snatching your feet, maybe," Vurb grinned.

"Somehow I doubt that," Finn sighed, then glanced at Skeppy, "look. You gotta find some way to end this. One way or another. Why it's been haunting you for so long and stuff like that."

"...I'll think about it."

...

He can feel the monster's stare from under the bed as he brushes his teeth for the night. Skeppy scrolls though his phone, looking at pictures, memes, art, whatever he sees on Twitter. It's been a long day.

He'll upload later, when he's not busy dealing with a monster under his bed. After turning off the light, the man shuffles his way to his sheets and flops down. He shuffles until he is nestled comfortably under the blankets and closed his eyes.

Skeppy knows that the monster usually waits for a while before moving. So he lays in his bed for a moment. A minute. Two.

He rolls to his stomach, let's his hand hang loosely off the edge.It feels weird. There's a tingly feeling, a small sense of dread.

He stills the urge to twitch in apprehension. Skeppy slows his breathing, pretending to be asleep, waiting for the monster to catch the bait.

And finally, he feels the brush of something against his hands, claws gently poking his skin.

So, he wraps his fingers around a palm. His eyes snapped open as he heard a noise of surprise and confusion. Finally, he looks down.

Wide white eyes greet him in return. Its hand is stuck in a vice-like grip. Its quite cute, in a way, how confused it looks.

Okay. Maybe he's a little too tired to think properly right now.

So, he asks the monster:

"What are we?"

So uh. I actually have three one shots in this series that ended up turning into a full AU of sorts. Would you guys like me to post that on Wattpad as well?

Currently they are on ao3 and are called "Summoning a God from the Realm of Containment: A Guide" (The concept drabble that started it all), "Warmth", and "Bonds and Connections" (this one's kinda of the sequel of the first)
