"i was cleaning the old storage of the gym last saturday," winona overheard one of her juniors said to her other friend who also happened to be winona's junior as well, "and i found this brooch! look how pretty it is," she exclaimed.

"let me see!" they held up the little brooch and it twinkled under the lights.

"look, it's like a droplet of water," she said, "and it looks like it's from wallace. he's the previous gym leader of sootopolis that specializes in water types, right?" winona's eyes widened.

"oh, should we give it to winona, then? from what i heard, there were rumors of them dating before," the newbie gym trainer said.

both of them jumped back and whirled around in surprise when they heard winona speak behind their backs.
"that's mine, give it to me," she said. terrified of her serious face and tone of her voice, they immediately handed her the brooch and apologized profusely. but winona just walked away, holding onto the brooch tightly.

one of the gym trainers there who was one of the gym trainers that had been under winona the longest, approached them.
"don't worry too much," he told them, "the rumors are true. they dated for a long time, several years ago before wallace became the hoenn champion. we're in no place to talk about our gym leader's private matters,"

and suddenly, both juniors are already in front of him, begging for more information.
"but we wanna know what happened! why did they break up, though? they seemed to be a great couple,"

🌀💧🌀💧🌀

winona sat back in her office chair and glanced at her brooch she thought she had permanently lost.

so many good memories crashed to her like roaring waves. always something about water and painful memories.
how long was it when wallace gave this to her? five or six years ago?

the ache was unbearable and she couldn't help the tears that started misting her eyes.

funny how it was all her decision and yet here she is now, regretting every single thing, living in the past, hoping that somehow she could take the step and move forward.

there was never a problem with third parties or with wallace. in fact, wallace was everything she was looking for in a guy. wallace gave her everything she asked for, and she didn't even ask for much because she's an independent woman that never really relied much on anyone except for wallace.
he taught her to rely on him even just a little bit.
wallace was the only guy who had the guts to chip down her walls and see through her.

but not every good thing is bound to stay forever.

and it was all her fault.

they could've been so good.
so so good.

so many people look up to them as such a power couple. they achieved great feats no ordinary couple achieved.

she achieved what she wanted, but is now wallowing in regret.

and so many vivid visions of them spending their free time together, travelling different regions, with winona accompanying wallace in his pokemon beauty contests, and wallace watching and training with winona.

winona let herself drown in all her favorite memories of them together, even during the difficult times that wallace never left her.

they promised each other to stay together whatever happens, but winona was the first to let go.
