winona had just finished defeating a gym challenger and was already resting by her gym's office when she got a call from roxanne.

"yes?" she asked, putting her pokenav close to her ear.

"will you come to the meeting later?" she mentioned, pertaining to the meeting that will be hosted by wallace later that day at 3:00 pm by lilycove's motel. she knew she needed to come whether she liked it or not because the chairman of the pokemon association and mr. stone, the father of steven stone and president of the devon corporation. both the chairman and mr. stone knows her capabilities as a trainer and gym leader and has therefore asked for her assistance several times for devon's and the leaders' safety and well-being, with the director relying on her more for leading her co-leaders. although wallace can do a better job than her with being a better lead, given that he is the pokemon champion of hoenn, she knew that wallace is a really busy person even before becoming a champion.

back when he was still the leader of sootopolis, wallace had already been competing in various pokemon contests and even judging in most of them. wallace always loved seeing pokemon and their trainer becoming in sync with fluid movements, mastery of commands of the trainer, the ability of them to guide and lead their pokemon, and having the full confidence in the field of performing arts. and whenever winona would watch him, whether it be him judging for a contest or him competing in it, she always loved seeing the spotlights behind wallace, the lights outlining his beautiful built and highlighting his pokemon's performance.

she loved seeing the glow on his face and his smiles. she loved seeing him genuinely happy doing the things he love and being successful in it.

she loved it until she didn't.

in retrospect, it was all on her. her anger. her envy. her ego. her pride.

she felt so suffocated. she felt so small when she's with wallace. after all the success he got and when he was slowly rising to fame and success, winona started feeling envious and inferior to wallace.

and now, seeing wallace, several years later, already achieving the good things in life she once wished for him, she felt a pit in her stomach.

but that's for a different time to be remembered. she has her duties now that needs her attention.

"yes, the chairman specifically asked me to lead along with wallace in preparation for the meeting with the unovan leaders," she said.

she could hear roxanne hum from the other line.

"will you be okay?" she asked. winona sensed she was worried for her, knowing that winona and wallace are no longer together and that it might be awkward for the both of them.

winona chuckled.

"of course, roxanne. i'm fine. it's been several years, i'll be okay. plus you know me, i don't let awkwardness and all those things get in the way with my line of work. professionalism comes first before anything else," she said. winona knows that she can handle things well with wallace. she knows him. she's sure that he'll be as professional as her most especially because this is a meeting they are talking about and that whatever has happened in the past with them won't affect the present them.

"okay, i'll see you there," roxanne said before hanging up. winona placed her phone down on her table and exhaled a long and heavy exhale.
