Goth's POV a week and a 1/2 later

Slam! Ca-Click!

"What the hell, Goth?"A voice snaps at me

I lock my locker up again without even glancing over.

"What now, Aleena?"I ask

"How dare you! You took Palette from me! He isn't even yours! I got him fairly but you are messing things up!"She snaps

I roll my eye.

"Stop talking like he's an item. You bought him without him knowing or wanting any part of it. He didn't know you. It's far from fair. I'm his boyfriend and I'm going to treat him with love and respect. Back off."I say

"But he's a mortal!"She snaps

"And? You're not completely mortal either so don't pull that bias or forbidden bs on me when it'd be the same for you."I say

"But let's play your little idea out with belonging. Let's say you did get to buy him and have a right to claim ownership to him, which you don't. You are the child of a high councilman that avoids meddling in mortal matters. Your kind merely observes and intervenes when a god meddles. You set things up for others, not yourself. Goth is a demigod, the son of Death himself. All souls reach his family eventually, what makes you think you ever had a chance with some coins of all things to prevent that? Besides, they are much more skilled at looking the soul of a person instead of an object than you'll ever be. So even with your flawed logic, you still never had a chance so just quit while you're crawling ahead."Jadei says

Aleena groans and walks away with a huff.

"You're both unbelievable!"She whines

We shake our heads and Jadei fist-bumps me before heading to class.

"Everything alright, Gothy?"I hear a beloved voice say

I turn to see Pally behind me with his bag ready to go. His eyes twinkle at me.

"Just Aleena being Aleena. Everything is okay, Pally. Ready to go?"I ask

His face burns up a bit and he grips the locker beside him. I smile at him.

"Still not used to the nickname?"I ask

He shakes his head.

"It's just so nice...I love it..."He says

I smile and hold his hand gently, interlocking fingers with him. We start to head out and he smiles. I laugh with him at one of his jokes but then watch his smile fade, showing horror as he freezes in his tracks.

"What's wrong Pally?"I ask

He only stares ahead. I glance ahead and see Calludo standing with Slate. Calludo no longer has a mouth, it's as if it was erased like a drawing of a cartoon character and replaced with just more scales. His arms are also bound together to the point of nearly fusing into one like a Minecraft villager. Slate has a big grin on his face as the two stare Palette down. I wrap my wing around him, pulling him close and walk right past them, glaring at Slate as it sent chills down his spine.

"Where do you think you're going with him?"He asks

"Anywhere without either of you. Stay away unless you want another lesson on what happens when you hurt Palette."I growl

Slate looks alarmed and steps back. Calludo steps forward, glaring at Palette. I roll my eye.

These people are getting on my nerves...

I release Palette's hand and look up at muted Calludo.

"Don't try to be threatening Calludo. It just takes one tap of my finger to get rid of you. My touch is never safe when I'm in a bad mood. Do you really want to test your luck?"I ask, reaching out

He flees as quick as his feet can carry him, Slate following behind him. I sigh, taking some deep breaths to calm down again. I lead Palette away to the bus station, hopping onto the bus with him when it does come. It is quiet as I hold his hand.

"I'm staying until your stop so you get home safe."I say

"But don't you have plans at a stop before home today?"He asks

It's true. I do. I plan to volunteer at a food shelter at a town that recently got horribly affected by a hurricane.

"Yes, but you come first. I don't like seeing them again and want to make sure they don't cause any trouble to you."I say

"Why don't I join you and volunteer so that it's easier? I wouldn't mind helping out either."He says

"Do you want to?"I ask

He nods.

"Alright then."I say

He rests his head on my shoulder.

"I love you, Gothy."He reminds me

"I love you too, Pally."I say

Soon we're at the shelter volunteering. He got all the victims and survivors of the storm seated with warm blankets or pillows for seats along with other volunteers. I got stuck in the back cooking meals and snacks or treats for them as volunteers brought the plates of what I completed out. I stand at the stove, stirring some soup around in a pot as the oven bakes some pastries for a family with triplets that needed specific food due to allergies. I hear footsteps sneak up behind me and then feel two arms wrap around me, a head burying into my shoulder.

"Gothy...You're wonderful..."He says

"I'm just making some food, Palette."I say

"But you're helping people...You have such a good soul...I love you..."He sighs softly

"What's bringing this up suddenly?"I ask, noticing a hint of sadness in his tone

It was almost as if that was leading into something bad.

"I just want to be sure that you know that...And for things to continue going well."He says

"What makes you think anything will change?"I ask

He goes silent, kissing my cheek and holding me tighter.

"Is it because those two showed up again?"I ask

He nods.

"Palette, they won't do anything."I say

"If not them, then who? Their return is a bad omen, Gothy. I don't have a good feeling....Someone always tries to ruin a good thing going..."He says

"I won't let anyone hurt you, Palette. I assure you."I tell him

"Its not me that I'm worried about. I won't let anyone hurt you either. I don't want anyone to cause you trouble."He says

I shake my head with a sigh. Even now he doesn't hint to a concern to himself.

"Our feelings are mutual, Palette. I love you but sometimes your priorities aren't clear. When you have a bad feeling, usually you should worry for yourself before others. Your selflessness is something I love but your lack of self-concern is...concerning. Please tell me that you'll take yourself into account before you try to stop something bad in the future. And we'll get through this together. It'll be okay."I tell him

"Okay...That does sound better than worrying...I'll work on that."He says

I turn around, kissing his cheek.

"Love you, Pally."I say

"Love you too, Gothy."He says

And of course, Palette was right.
