She didn't think she had to prepared herself for this moment just yet, knowing that she would eventually meet Karissa, she was struck by fear of changing the future the Fates had for Karissa by meeting her so soon. Yet nothing could have prepared her for the sight of the young girl who stood before her, her eyes reflecting a mixture of curiosity and uncertainty. Jinx's breath caught in her throat as she realized that Karissa was not just any child—she was a dragon shifter, like Jinx herself, and a succubus, inheriting Blair's enigmatic powers.
As they exchanged hesitant smiles, Jinx's mind raced with the implications of this revelation. How could such a convergence of abilities exist within one so young? She felt a deep, instinctual protectiveness for her niece, coupled with a gnawing fear of what the future might hold.
Distress gnawed at Jinx's resolve as she recalled the future that Blair had seen for Karissa. It was the best possible outcome, a future where Karissa would thrive and find her place in the world. Jinx knew the risks of interfering with what had been foretold, yet the urge to guide and protect Karissa was almost overwhelming. How could she stand by and watch, knowing the perils that could lie ahead for someone with such unique and potent abilities? The dilemma tore at her heart, leaving her uncertain of the path she should take. Every instinct screamed at her to intervene, to ensure that Karissa's journey would be safe and fulfilling.
Jinx knew she had to tread carefully. Any action she took could alter the delicate balance of Karissa's destined path. The weight of this responsibility pressed down on Jinx, and she silently vowed to find a way to support and guide Karissa without disrupting the future Blair had so carefully envisioned. She sat silent and still for what felt like forever trying to take it all in.
"Karissa? As in Blair's daughter?" Jinx asked, her tone tinged with anxiety.
"Yes," Karissa confirmed simply.
"But you're not supposed to meet Blair until you're twenty-six," Jinx stated anxiously.
"How do you know that?" Karissa questioned.
"You're breaking the rules," Jinx reminded her, her worry evident.
"I needed to know her," Karissa explained.
"Wait, how are you a dragon?" Jinx inquired, trying to understand.
"I'm a dragon and succubus. My father was a dragon, although Blair doesn't know that," Karissa revealed.
"So, because your father was a dragon, you're a dragon?" Jinx sought clarification.
"Yes, and because my mother is a crown, I am royal—the next in line after you," Karissa explained further.
"So, how did you get here?" Jinx asked, her curiosity growing.
"My adoptive parents couldn't handle my powers. When Abi found me, they agreed to let me go with her. They still call, and I visit them. They still love me and help me. Every time we talk, though, they tell me stories about Blair and how much she loves me. I love them, Queen Jinx, but I want to be with my mother," Karissa shared with a mix of emotion.
"Jinx, sister, are you going to change fate?" Nona's voice emerged from the shadows, catching everyone's attention.
"What happens if I do?" Jinx inquired, her gaze turning to Nona. "Will it align with what Blair was shown?"
"No, it will alter the outcome," Nona clarified.
"For better or worse?" Jinx sought reassurance.
