Blair prepared for bed, a sense of relief washing over her as she reflected on the cathartic release of confronting Kai through her letter. With each step in her bedtime routine, the burden of carrying the pain he had caused began to lift from her shoulders. No longer did she feel obligated to bear the weight of his misdeeds; she had unburdened herself of that responsibility.
As she settled into bed, a faint sense of unease crept into her heart, casting a shadow over the newfound lightness she had just begun to experience. A heavy, foreboding feeling weighed upon her chest, as though the air itself had turned dense with impending doom. It was a sensation she couldn't shake, an ominous premonition of something devastating on the horizon.
Despite the relief she had found in finally confronting Kai, Blair couldn't shake the nagging certainty that their conflict was far from resolved. Her letter had been a direct attack on his character, a bold stance she had never dared to take before. And yet, instead of feeling triumphant, she felt a burning sensation around her heart, as if the emotions she had unleashed were too potent to contain.
With each passing moment, the heaviness in her chest grew, threatening to suffocate her with its weight. It was as though the universe itself was warning her of the storm brewing on the horizon, urging her to brace herself for the tumultuous days to come.
"Mistress Macaria?" Hermes called from the hall.
Blair paused, glancing towards the door. "You may enter, Hermes," she called back, her voice carrying a tone of authority tinged with curiosity. She swiftly moved from her bed, the silk of her robe whispering as it slid over her skin, and cinched it tightly around her waist.
Hermes flew into the room with a sense of urgency, his usually composed demeanor replaced by a palpable tension that hung heavy in the air. As he bowed before her, the gravity of his expression spoke volumes, conveying a fear that resonated deeply within Blair's gut. It was a fear that seemed to emanate from something beyond her, something far more ominous than anything she could have imagined.
The look in Hermes' eyes held a glint of trepidation, and Blair couldn't shake the unsettling feeling that it wasn't her that he feared. Despite his usual confidence as the messenger of the gods, there was an undeniable vulnerability in his demeanor, a hint of apprehension that sent a chill down Blair's spine.
If she had to guess, Blair knew that whatever had unsettled Hermes was not a threat she could easily confront. It was a fear born of something ancient and powerful, something that lurked in the shadows beyond the reach of mortal or godly understanding.
As Hermes stood before her, his presence a silent testament to the gravity of the situation, Blair couldn't help but wonder what darkness awaited them on the horizon.
"Mistress Macaria, I have delivered your letter," Hermes said, his voice echoing through the room.
Blair turned to face him, her expression inscrutable. "I know you didn't come here just to tell me that you delivered my letter, Hermes. What happened?"
"I gave Kai the letter, and began to leave, as you instructed," Hermes began. "But as I was flying away, I had this nagging feeling in my stomach, so I used the invisibility spell and went back to watch him read it."
Blair raised an eyebrow. "Really? Well, keep going."
"As he read the letter, his face began to change," Hermes continued, his tone grave. "There was this almost demon-like snarl on his face. He began to call news outlets and tell them about what you are. Then he turned into a full-blooded demon. He declared revenge against you to the cosmos and then vanished."
"A demon? Interesting," Blair mused, her mind already working on a plan. "Thank you for the information, Hermes. Now I need you to gather my sisters and Peri in the meeting hall. Tell them it is important that they come right away, please."
