For the next few days after your encounter, the blonde boy has been nowhere to be seen.
You've worn the clip everyday, it's presence making you feel calm.
You know you'll be sad to let it go because he gave it to you, but it's still his, he'll want it back.
Today it's raining, and you listen to the sound of the water drizzling onto your umbrella as you walk to work.
You've always loved the smell of the rain. Clear and fresh and a bit earthy, like wet dirt and leaves. Even the smell of the wet concrete after the rain brings you peace.
It feels like the rain comes and cleanses the whole world, leaving everything in its true form, shiny and clean and dripping with water.
Even if it's still warm because of summer, the rain feels nice.
You wipe your feet on the mat when you get to work, trying not to track water everywhere. Then you open the door again, shake your umbrella out outside, and put it on the umbrella holder Mitsuki set out.
Then you head to the kitchen, ready to start the day's work.
~🍡~
By the time you're done rolling out the mochi and cutting it up, you're cheeks and hands are covered in flower.
You trade with Hideo for the front desk, pulling up a chair and sitting down. You stare out at the falling rain, watching it is strangely therapeutic.
"Hey y/n!"
You nearly jump straight out of your chair.
"God, Mitsuki, you scared me. What is it?"
She holds out a piece of mochi.
"Try this!"
"Ok..."
You take the mochi, tentatively biting into it. It tastes like...
"Mint?" you guess, surprised.
You guys have never made mint mochi before.
"Yes! I thought of it not too long ago and decided to give it a try! What do you think?"
"I like it!" you say.
Hideo comes in.
"What's all the commotion?" he asks.
Mitsuki gives him some mochi to try too, and now you're all standing behind the counter eating it together. Business is slow because of the rain.
The rain.
The mint tastes fresh, like the rain.
"We should put it out in the case!" you say.
"Oh, well we'd have to make more," said Mitsuki, "This was just a test batch."
"That's ok! I can help!" you say, "The mochi tastes fresh, like the rain! It's perfect for a rainy day!"
The old couple looks at you kind of strangely for this, but you're excited so you don't mind.
Heading back into the kitchen with Mitsuki, you immediately get to work pounding rice, pushing the boy's clip farther into your hair.
~🍡~
Business is slow for the rest of the day, but you do convince a couple customers to buy the mint mochi.
Plus, you know you'll be able to convince Mitsuki to make it again.
You just wish the boy had been there so he could've had some too.
