My phone vibrated in my back pocket during dinner and I excused myself from the table to answer.
"Leo hey!" I smiled into my phone.
Since the past I had updated my iPhone but I still kept the old one as a memoir of the start of my relationship with the boy I called my soul mate.
"Just called to congratulate you on your commitment, can't wait until I drive you down here this summer. The school is so close to everything, it's amazing!"
The excitement in his voice jabbed my heart and shoved me into silence.
"Karla? You there?"
"Yeah... I'm excited too." I forced myself to smile.
We stayed on the phone for an hour more. Leo talked to me about upcoming projects and I arranged for him to come down to my graduation.
"So I'll see you in a couple weeks?" I asked him as I used my empty hand to place my plates into the dish washer.
"Yeah something like that." He said and I could already picture the grin on his face.
