YEMI WAS LIKE HER MOTHER IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE. Not only did she inherit her mother's long black hair and chubby figure, she inherited her mother's heart. Kind and gentle, desperate to love and be loved.
Yemi tried to be strong but deep down she was weak, so very weak. She rubbed at her wrists, tracing the faint scars that had begun to fade. They looked like little tally marks on her body. There was time she would have hid them, even though no one ever noticed them. Yemi was done hiding.
She should have ignored Dara's invitation to stay but she just couldn't. How could she refuse? Yemi wished she had more will power but the sad truth was that she didn't. She was a sucker for this boy and as much as she wanted to lie to herself, Yemi knew her heart would tell a different story.
As Jola closed the door, Yemi knew there was no backing out. She would have to face whatever dares Jola threw at her and reveal all her truths. Yemi could always just not tell the truth but she was always a terrible liar and Jola knew it.
On the bright side, Adufe was seated next to her so at least there was that. Whatever Jola wanted to do, she didn't even want to know. The text Adufe received was from her boss telling her to take the night of, Jola clearly had something to do with it, which was bad because she was supposed to be paid that night and she really needed to see the bank alert.
She felt Adufe's wrath roll of her in hot waves like a layer of pure white vengeance sticking to her skin. Adufe was livid. Unlike Yemi, Adufe had no problems with putting Jola in her place.
Adufe had a very short fuse and clearly she was about to detonate. Yemi was sad she had put her friend in this situation.
"I'm sorry_" Yemi tried to apologise.
"It's not your fault that your former best friend is so annoying, babe don't apologise" Adufe called every girl babe, it had even become a term of endearment.
"I know"
"I swear ba, if she vexes me again I'll just rip her eyelashes off"
Yemi laughed softly because she knew her cousin was capable. She would really do it.
"Who was the guy that just left?"
"Ishaya, Dara's friend. We weren't close, and that's Efosa"
Efosa gave a mock salute at the mention of his name.
"He looks familiar, I think I've seen him somewhere"
"Are you sure?" If Adufe said he seemed familiar, the chances were there he was. Adufe never forgot a face.
"Are you guys even listening to me?"
Apparently Jola was explaining the rules of the game to Adufe but they had been whispering to each other and did not catch a word she said.
"Let's just start again" Dara said and he moved to take Ishaya's seat. Odd. Weren't boyfriends supposed to want to seat next to me their babes?. Maybe they had a fight or something. Yemi ignored the vain part of her that leaped with joy at the thought.
"I'll go first this time" Jola tapped at something on her phone screen.
"I picked a dare and it says to take someone to the side for two minutes" she said.
Yemi internally groaned because she knew Jola was definitely going to pick Dara.
"I pick Yemi"
Talk about a plot twist. Yemi stared at Jola, utterly confused.
"Let's go" Jola came over and pulled Yemi out of her seat and dragged her outside the room. When they were outside, Yemi yanked her wrist free of Jola's grip.
