I followed in her footsteps as she went through the iron gate. Not only was it tall, but it was also quite dense, and no one could see what was enclosed within. As we moved closer to the entrance, my fascination began to consume my thoughts.

"Did we walk into a residence or a courtyard when we got here?" As I looked around the whole area, I couldn't help but wonder whether it was real, and I couldn't stop myself from speaking. "It's absolutely huge!"

The entire surface was covered in Bermuda grass that was cut to the proper size for the terrain in the vicinity. In the middle of where we walked was the asphalt pathway that went to the ancient stone mansion in the distance. This is the first time in my entire existence that I have ever seen a residence like this, and it is currently situated on the island. I mean, this is all I know because I'm not a wanderer and I never leave this area, so I never get to see the other buildings in this neighborhood. My best guess is that we will have to continue walking for another five minutes before we arrive in front of the cozy but imposing mansion that Nikita's relative once owned.

"Nikita..." I made an effort to get her attention, but she just continued strolling as if she didn't hear me when I called out to her. I put on an act of coughing. It was loud enough to get her attention, but she didn't even bother to glance at me for a single second, despite the fact that it did. I believe that she is preoccupied with something right now. "Wait for me, Nikita!" I shouted, and she immediately stopped moving in response to my command.

When she stared at me, I instantly shut my mouth because her eyes were serious, as if telling me to stop talking, and zipped my mouth. I went along with what she wanted to happen. Something in my head is telling me that I have no choice but to follow her at this moment; otherwise, I will get into a lot of trouble.

"Sorry..."

Nikita paid no attention to what I had to say and resumed her leisurely walk instead. She was able to open the main entrance to the mansion with such ease that I'm not entirely sure how she did it. The outside of the property has the appearance of being extremely old and worn, but the interior is modern and up-to-date. I would say that there was a big differentiation between how it looked on the inside and how it looked on the outside. The chairs are evidently crafted from rare and expensive species of wood and are upholstered in silk of the rarest and most expensive variety. The chandelier that they had in their living room was gigantic, and I could almost see myself standing on the marble floor. When a few more servants suddenly appeared out of nowhere, I came to a halt. They all wear the same outfit. It was white, so it appeared clean. Their hair is nicely curled behind their heads. From a distance, they could be mistaken for caregivers or students enrolled in a nursing course.

"Welcome home—"

Nikita told the maids to stop greeting us at the same time by raising one of her hands. Almost at the same time, they bowed down immediately, as if their eyes were filled with fear at what Nikita had done to them.

"Where is Rofus?"

The middle-aged woman, who I believe is in control of them, responded to Nikita's question.

"He's still in his office."

"Please tell him that I have arrived. I will wait for him at the dining table in the kitchen. Also let him know that today I have a guest with me."

"Sure, I'll inform him."

The middle-aged woman immediately turned her back and left us. Once more, I went after Nikita. Due to the peculiar sensation that I can't even describe or explain why it exists, I completely forgot to share my opinion of the surrounding area. The fact that she is able to make the servants obey her despite the fact that the owner of this house is only her cousin defies the impression that she is exceptional and powerful too.

"Sit down next to me, Amelia."

My jaw almost dropped when we entered another door and a long table filled with various foods and expensive drinks was revealed to my eyes. I have to admit that I just found out that Nikita's clan is wealthy family. I suddenly felt ashamed of her because Mom only served her very simple food every time she visited our house. I just thought of it now.

"Nikita, you didn't tell me you came from a wealthy family, and I felt ashamed of you now that I discovered it late."

I turned to face her and drew a chair precisely next to her seat, as she had requested earlier. My eyes continued to sparkle. I silently sat there, but I couldn't stop myself from admiring my surroundings.

Is this for real?

Isn't it true that everything here is not part of my dream?

"I'm not the wealthy one here, Amelia. Don't let me intimidate you. This home was owned by my cousin."

Nikita chuckled as she took up the pitcher of water and poured it into her glass. She drank it one after the other till it was gone. I watched her discreetly as she did that. Now, I realize that she looks like a goddess. Her beauty is unmatched.

"Since you're related to them, you're presumably associated with them."

She didn't say anything as her attention was drawn to the entrance of the dining room in the mansion, where she could see the middle-aged woman coming back in.

"Where is Rofus?"

"He has not yet left his workplace. It is important for you to go there and see him so that he can explain something to you. In addition to that, he states that he needs something from you."

I saw how Nikita frowned at what she heard. Based on her appearance, she did not like the words she heard.

"Did you say I was with someone?"

"Yes, but he said he would wait for you there in his office."

Nikita did nothing but take a few deliberate breaths before rising to her feet.

"All right, I'm going to see him, and I also have something to deliver to him."

She gave me a meaningful look before leaving.

"Amelia, stay here for a while, and I'll go see my cousin at the office. It looks like he won't show up until I pick him up there."

I slowly nodded. Why should I insist on her request, right?

"Just stay here. Don't go anywhere else in the house or you might get lost."

I laughed and nodded again.

What did she think of me, youngster? Curiosity can kill a cat. And I know she will come back to where she left me.

"Yes, go ahead. I'm just going to sit here, and I won't dare to leave. I'll wait for you here, Nikita."
