The autumn comes, oh the wind is cold.
My petals wilt with summer's leaving.
Where are you while I wait for
The flight of cranes and the river's song?
Peonies only last for a while,
A whisper of time, a moment in the sun.
Oh while the wind blows,
I shiver at your leaving.
Oh the cruel cut of the gardener's blade,
Do I cry at the pain of farewell?
Again, I wait, curling in,
While you walk from afar?
