Chapter 14: Conflict

After Colonel Goremykin and his subordinates left, Markus closed the door. He then heard Botan crying in Ivor's room, he immediately ran to Ivor's room and tried to open the door but the door was locked.

"IVOR! OPEN THE DOOR!"

Markus shouted as he rapidly knocked on the door strongly. After that, the door was opened by Ivor.

"Where's Botan?!?!"

Markus ran into Ivor's room and asked worriedly. He then fell silent in relief when he saw that Botan was fine and was crying on the bed. He approached her and sat on the bed next to her.

"Botan?"

Markus called softly. Hearing that, Botan looked at him with teary eyes.

"Have the Russians gone...?"

Botan asked me in tears.

"Yes, they're gone! So you don't have to worry anymore!"

Hearing that, Botan also stopped crying. She then rushed over and hugged Markus tightly.

"Dad... Can I sleep with you tonight...?"

The poor Botan asked. Hearing that, Markus felt awkward because he was afraid that Ivor would be sad so he turned to look at Ivor.

"It's okay. Dad can protect Botan better than me, so she can sleep well!"

Ivor accepted.

"Thank you, Ivor."

Botan happily thanked.

"Dad, let's go to sleep!"

"Ok, my daughter."

Markus then carried Botan away. But as he passed the window in Ivor's room, a gunshot rang out in the cold winter air. Immediately after, the window broke and a hole appeared in the floor caused by a bullet.

"That hole... IVOR! HIDE!"

Right after Markus gave Ivor the order, another shot rang out and this time Markus was hit in the right leg by a bullet.

"AHHH!"

Markus cried out in pain. Due to an injury to his left leg, Markus had to kneel on his right leg and was unable to move.

"Dad..."

Botan was shocked.

"DAD!!!!"

Ivor shouted out loud worriedly. He was not only worried about his father but also about Botan because Markus was holding her. He then ran up and hugged his father and his adopted sister and brought them out of the bedroom just as another bullet flew into the bedroom but fortunately it hit the floor, almost hitting Markus' left leg. .

"Dad! Are you ok?!"

Ivor asked worriedly.

"Not so ok..."

Markus spoke in pain as his left leg bled. At the same time, Asko and Jani left their bedroom.

"I heard gun--"

Jani and Asko were immediately shocked and gasped to see their father injured.

"DAD! ARE YOU OK?!?!"

Jani and Asko worriedly asked.

"Not ok... Ivor, go to the basement and bring out some guns... We will fight to defend OUR house..."

Markus said firmly.
