Twenty minutes earlier.
"I am on my way Ammie. Yes I will drive carefully. I'll see you in a bit"
I removed the earpiece that was in my ear after i disconnected the call.
It had started drizzling when I was on the phone.
It's not normal for the roads of this city to be this empty at this time.
The red light came on when I reached the junction. Seeing that cars weren't passing like they're supposed to I decided to break the traffic rule.
The roads were slippery making me go faster than my usual speed. I cleaned the windshield so that I would be able to see clearly.
Just when I removed my hand I saw someone crossing the road. I honked at whoever it was but didn't move. I kept on honking continuously but was of no use.
A girl stood still watched as I approached her. The headlights were on to their brightest.
I managed to stop abruptly which resulted to me hitting my head on the wheel.
Did I hit her?
I got out of the car with my head throbbing in pain. I held it and saw that it was bleeding and my sky blue shirt was stained with blood.
But I didn't care. I needed to see if she was okay. I prayed as I went to the crowd that surrounded her.
I sighed and took a look. She was wet from the rain that poured. Her face was covered in blood. Her hair was laying freely on the ground. I didn't like this scene.
"Someone call an ambulance" a woman that looked in her early forties said.
"Call her family" another said.
This was my doing, I have to take responsibility.
"Put her in my car"
I told them which they did.
"Sir you are also injured, you can't drive in this state "
"Don't worry I'll manage"
They put her in and the woman whose name I finally knew,Ruth, came with me to the hospital and she was rushed to the ER.
"You should also get cleaned up sir-"
"Oh please just call me Aman"
"You seem to be hurt pretty badly Aman sir "
"Don't worry it doesn't hurt that much"
"Still. You look disheveled"
I sighed seeing she won't give up so I went to a nurse and asked her to attend to my wounds.
My head was bandaged and a shirt was given to me.
After coming out from the wash room I saw Ammie's missed call so i called her back.
"Aman where are you ?it has been over an hour"
"Uhm. Ammie i"
"What happened?" She asked with concern visible in her voice.
"I got into an accident "
There was silence.
"Ammie?"
"Where are you?"
The hospital.
"I'm coming "
And the call was disconnected.
I went back to where I left the woman I came with.
"They are still not out?" I asked her as I sat on the silver benches.
