CHAPTER FIVE
Who Do You Think You Are?

James watched as the couple climbed down into the basement to find the boiler. He didn't dare enter there. He got jump scared by one of the many ghosts who live down there. He waited for a few moments before they came rushing back up again. The two came rushing back up two minutes later. James sighed with a shrug. He was bored. "I'm bored." He sighed with his arms crossed. "Let's go annoy someone."

He couldn't find anyone to annoy. He walked around, a bored look on his face as he walked. He walked past a room before pausing and walking back. Julien was creeping toward Allison who was halfway out the window.

He watched with panic as her feet raised off the ground as she looked out. "No.." He muttered. "No, no, no." Julien raised his hands, pushing them out toward Allison. "Julien!" He shouted.

There was a loud scream as Allison went falling out of the window. Julien turned to James in fear. The detective looked at him with horror and anger. "What the fuck did you just do?!" He shouted at him.

James gripped the man's jacket, shoving him against the wall with a harsh shove. Even though ghosts couldn't feel pain, Julien was practically shitting himself with fear. "You fucking asshole! Pushing someone out of a fucking window?!"

The rest of the ghosts came rushing in to see James yelling at Julien while Allison got taken away in an ambulance. "You better pray to fuck she's alright because I swear to god, I will find a way to hurt you."

Julien began stuttering as he rushed away and closer to the group. "Let me be absolutely clear—"

"Did I hear James correctly?" Kitty asked, looking at Julien. "Did you push her?"

"Well, now, the thing you have to understand is this..."

"I'm sorry, but it's rather a yes or no question," Pat told him. The group began talking over one another while James stood, arms crossed, glaring at Julien.

"I took a decision to..." Julien began stuttering.

"Pushy or no pushy?" Robin asked.

"Robin, let me ask you this. You know, what was the context?"

"Answer the question, damn your eyes!" Thomas demanded.

"Thomas, I'm trying to answer the question, if you'll let me finish."

"Now, look here," Captain spoke up. James looked at him, thinking he would agree with him. "A sacrifice was made for the greater good. We wanted her out of the house, didn't we? This has either killed her or scared her off."

James' hopeful look was wiped off his face as he looked at the captain, a glare replacing it. "We wanted her out of the house, yes. Injured or fucking killed, no."

"You don't just do that to someone." Lady Button cried. "What kind of coward would push a lady out of the window?"

"Now, steady on, Fanny." Captain said to her.

"No, I won't, because I was pushed. You hear me? I was pushed. And I have never told a soul. It was my husband, George. I caught him upon the groundskeeper... with the butler on him."

"Like a sandwich?" Kitty asked.

"A man-wich." Mary spoke.

"Clearly, he didn't trust me with his sordid little secret, so he just did away with me. But he was wrong, wasn't he? He was very wrong. Because I have kept it, haven't I?" The whole group murmured. "Until now. Until now."

"I mean, I did know that." Thomas spoke. "I watched all of that." Some members of the group agreed.

"Well, Fanny. That must have been a terrible burden to bear for all those years. Perhaps now that you've shared it, you'll be free of your nightly terrors." Pat walked up to her.

"Oh, do you suppose so?" Fanny questioned.

"I'm sure of it."

James sighed. He lightly scoffed at the other people in the room (excluding those who disagreed with Julian's decision), walking away, praying to god that Allison was all right and hopefully not severely harmed. He heard Captain calling after him but he ignored as he continued to walk.

"James." Captain called once more making the man sigh and face him.

"You think killing that poor woman was a good choice, don't you?" James asked. He didn't let Captain speak. "Look, I get wanting her out of the house but harming or killing an innocent woman?" He scoffed. "Hell no." He leaned forward.

"You have to let me explain my reasoning—"

"No." James shook his head. "Look, I get we wanted them out. I was all ready for the haunting. I agreed only to the haunting. But... this?" The Detective shook his head as he began to walk away leaving the Captain in the hallway. "Now. Good day to you, Captain." was the last thing he heard before the detective walked off.
