When my villain was first introduced, the mask they wore was of a dog. A protector with nothing but love for me in their eyes, promising to give me the world. My first suspicion that something was off was when they growled instead of huffed. I knew a warning when I heard one, but this one was at me, not for me. Growls, turned into snarls, turned into barks... Barks turned into swipes, to slashes... Nips then bites until my villain held on and wouldn't let go.
I couldn't get them to be quiet, to listen, until I barked back. They wouldn't let go until I was the one thrashing and snapping. The wolf showed it's true skin and I refused to be a sheep that ran away. I almost didn't make it to the end of the chapter without becoming a villain myself.....
My villain went down. The only issue was that when they went, they took my hero with them...
My hero said I was their world, loved me with all of themselves...
They always knew the right thing to say, what to do to make me laugh...
They knew how to turn on the light and destroy my darkness. My hero was there long before I needed them, but they knew exactly the moment I did...
I lost a piece of myself that day, a piece that I never would get back, but one that I had to learn to live without because I refused to let it all be for nothing...Sometimes, our heroes don't make it to the end of the story...
Remember them, in the epilogue...
