Chapter 16. Rebound

Weeks passed, and Monday lunchtime came. Danielle is yet again busy doing paperwork's on her desk. Haerin on the other hand came in the room with a smile plastered on her face "hey" she started

"Hi" Danielle replied looking up to her

"So, I-"

"Hey!" someone interrupted opening the door. They both turned and saw Nikii "Look what I got?!" he asked showing a paper bag.

Danielle opened the bag and saw a container of food "Nikii, you didn't have to" she said taking out the contents of the bag

"Nah, I was in the area and I know you'd be busy doing
work so, I decided to bring you lunch" Nikii replied then turned to Haerin "Oh, Kang Kitty sorry. I forgot you're here too.

Do you want me to get something for you too?" he asked "Uhm...no. Nah. It's fine. I just had lunch. Thanks", said Haerin politely

"Are you sure?" he asked

"Yeah. Yeah" she replied "I'll be outside" she opened the door when she heard Danielle.

"Haerin, what were you about to say?" Danielle asked

Haerin hid the paper bag behind her "Uhm... nah. It's nothing important. Enjoy your lunch" she replied and walked out the door. She then went to the café across the street.

Opening the door someone said "If it isn't princess charming" making her turn to the booth near the window "you're back. I'm guessing it didn't go as planned?" asked Minji.

Haerin made her way towards the pair. She set the paper bag on the table and shook her head. Minji sighed "I'm guessing it had to do with Nikii?"

Haerin didn't say a word then sat next to the girl and
fiddled with paper bag "We saw him pull up a couple of minutes after you went up"

"Are you ok?" Hanni asked on the other side of the booth Haerin didn't reply.

"Hey, lighten up. What happened to the optimistic Haerin we know? Maybe he's just there to get some paperwork?"

Haerin shook her head "No, they're having lunch"

"And why are you here?" Hanni asked "you should be there guarding your girl, girl"

"Nah, I'm not a sadist" she paused looking down at the table and a tear slip out of her eye. She quickly wiped it away.

"Hey, hey. It's going to be ok" said Hanni comforting the girl next to her.

"That rhymes" said Minji earning her a slap in the hand from Hanni.

Haerin looked outside towards the buildings main entrance and right on cue, she saw Nikii and Danielle on their way out and walked towards his car.

No one said a word as they watched the couple drive off. Minji placed a hand on Haerin's shoulder.

Afternoon came, and Haerin was in the kitchen eating an apple with a knife when Dani walked in "Hey" said the girl making her look up "have you seen mom and dad?"

Haerin pointed the knife towards the sliding door leading to the back garden.

"Thanks" Danielle said and made her way towards the door. But before she got out she turned to the girl ones more "hey, are you ok?" she asked

Haerin turned her head meeting the girls' eyes "yeah. You?"

"I'm great. Uhm... do you want to join me?" Danielle asked. Haerin shook her head "Nah, it's fine" she replied

"Ok. I'll be at the back" Danielle replied watching the other girl get up from her seat and sat the knife on the sink. Haerin turned to her again nodded.
