Alisha woke out of her sleep, the sun was beaming through the window right next to her bed. She looked over at her alarm clock to see that it was only 7:30. The kids were still sleep and Corey was wrapped under his covers.

She grabbed some clothes and went to the bathroom and brushed her teeth. She turned on the hot shower water which caused a loud jerk in the pipes. The place was so old there would be occasional leaks, brown water or no water at all; she was hoping now wasn't the time for either. The water was coming out slowly but surely this time. She hopped in the shower, after being in the sun all day yesterday this felt like a spa.

She finished her shower and got dressed. When she opened the bathroom door she could see her mothers room door was now open. She thought to herself that maybe the pipes had waken her up, Fuck she thought. She took a deep breath and glanced in her mothers room before walking into hers. She could see her mother laying across the bed reading the newspaper.

She put her clothes in the dirty clothes pile in the corner of the room before walking out. "Good morning ma" she said as she passed the room.

"Lisha come here" her mom said. Alisha stood still in place as her heart raced, she closed her eyes and quickly began making up excuses before returning to her mother. She quickly got her story together and started towards her mothers room.

"Yes ma'am?" She said as she sat in the doorway.

"What type of project did you have to work on yesterday?" Her mother asked. "I have a 7 page essay to do on culture, I needed a computer so I went to Monica's house after school" she stated. "How long you gonna need for this project?" Ms. Kathy asked. "Probably about 3 weeks, I gotta go back to Monica's house today to work on it some more" she said. "Alright, don't think I'm no fool though. If I hear or even think you out doin' somethin' other than yo' project, that's me and yo' ass" her mother said with a serious look. "Yes mama" Alisha said before walking into the kitchen.

She was so happy her mother believed the story but now she had to stay cautious and not get caught.

She went to the refrigerator and looked for something to cook. There was nothing in the bare fridge so she scrapped up something . She checked the pantry where she found a can of baked beans. She combined them with some near old hot dog links and began to cook. Although she wasn't hungry she was going to make sure Sage and Kayla had something to eat before leaving.

Once the food was done she fixed the kids a plate and woke them up. She placed their plates on the floor and sat them down since they had no dinning table. Just as she set them down Corey walked in the living room still wrapped in his blanket.

"What time you came in last night?" Alisha asked. "Do it matter?" He snapped back. Alisha could tell he still had an attitude from last night. "It's not my business but I was just wondering", as bad as she wanted to get slick with him she kept cool, she loved her brother and didn't want to fued with him over a guy.

"Well if you wanna eat it's some food on the stove, let mama know too. Oh and give them a bath and brush they teeth when they finish eatin'" she said as she grabbed her house keys.

"For what? Where you goin?" He asked with a unit on his face. "I have to do somethin' today I won't be gone long" she said. "Did you ask mama?" he asked. "Yeah she already know" she replied. "Alright whatever man" he said with an attitude.

Alisha began walking towards the bus stop. Already there were a bunch of dope boys on the block, she had no problem with them, she just hated walking past them.

Before even being able to reach the bus stop she saw Kevin's car pulling up beside her. As soon as she got in, she could see a guy trying to flag down the car. "Baby somebody's trying to flag you down" she said. Before she could even finish getting her sentence out he had pulled off. "Nah they ain't lookin' for me, I don't know who that it" he said. "You sure?" She asked. "Yes I'm sure baby". His eyes were blood shot red, she could tell something was off by calmness and quietness.
