cordelia james was one of the few who make it out of the hunger games, one of the few who knew how truly haunting it can feel. for the james family, the games ruled their lives, thomas james having won when he was a young boy himself. delia grew up knowing the ins and outs of a victors life but you never truly understand the horrors of surviving the games until it happens. no matter how prepared or dangerous you are if you enter those games with a heart, the trauma you endure will leave it barely beating.
delia knew about finnick before she was reaped for her games, both living in the victor village of district 4, he was hard to miss. of course she had heard the stories of how talented and truly fearless he was, but seeing it with her own two eyes was truly special. she owed him her life for everything he did her her and daniel, the male tribute from her games. despite everything her and finnick did to help him, he had no chance, only being 13.
daniel avoy was the first tribute to die that year, cordelia still hearing the cannon during her nightmares every so often, having to remind herself she lived for him, for her family, for her district, she lived and she can't take it for granted.
no matter what president snow would do to her, delia never let her guard down in the eye of the public, even destroying her relationship she had formed with her former mentor finnick odair without an explanation . as the years passed by and the district 4 tributes never returned the weights on her shoulders became heavier, leaving her drowning in the guilt but never letting it show.
𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠.. in a few chapters there will be flashbacks to delias games so there can be better understanding of her and finnicks old relationship and the contrast between how they act now and how they acted then.
