You were stunned after just receiving the call from your best friend Devon. The two of you clicked instantly when you first met at Northeastern in a class. You two had been assigned to work together on a project and ever since then the two of you were inseparable. You had a lot in common, and a similar schedule so you saw each other a lot. The one minor detail, he left out of your friendship was that he was an elite hockey player, and an NHL prospect. Your friend eventually invited you to one of Northeastern's games at the beginning of the school year when you and Devon were still getting to know each other and there he was, in the goal, making save after save and earning a shutout. You met up with him after the game shocked that he didn't fill you in on this important detail in his life. Now here you were months later getting a call that you needed to go to Buffalo immediately.
"Dev I'm in the middle of something,"
"Y/N it's really important, I'm playing in the NHL, please I need my number one supporter there," he said. You could feel his pleading eyes through the phone, his beautiful pleading eyes. It was safe to say that many people thought you and Devon were a thing, you did have a crush on him but had no idea if he felt the same way. He gave off the impression that he was interested but he would still call you his "best friend".
"I'm on my way." You hung up the phone and immediately called an uber, luckily it was spring break and you did not have to worry about missing school. You packed your things and headed out of your place to the street. You ordered a ticket for the fastest flight to Buffalo from Boston while in the uber. You rushed through the airport getting to the gate just in time, flashing your ticket then boarding immediately. After the mild stress of rushing around, you could finally rest on your quick flight to Buffalo. As soon as you landed in Buffalo the first thing you did was text Devon, you didn't think about a place to stay, you assumed he would be okay with you staying with him.
You got a ride from the airport to the address Devon sent you, hardly being able to contain your excitement. You hadn't seen him all spring break because he was playing hockey or going to Buffalo. When you pulled up Devon was waiting outside for you,
"Thank you," you said to the driver then immediately ran towards the smiling brunette waiting for you.
"There's my bestie," he said pulling you into a hug.
"Dev, this your place?" you smiled looking at the cute little apartment you were standing in front of.
"Temporarily, the team helped with it," he smiled, "here let me grab that for you," he took your bag. You looked around at the bland empty apartment, it had all of Devon's necessities from when he packed up and left for Buffalo; his video games, his hockey gear, some plates, and most importantly the hat you made for him in the winter. He wore it on the bench at each game he didn't play. He claimed it kept him warm as he strolled through rinks.
"This place is adorable," you smiled. He put your things down next to the couch,
"I was hoping you liked it enough to stay the night," he said. You nodded as you both caught up for the time you hadn't spent with each other over break. Devon got ready to head to the game while catching a ride from a teammate.
"Well, you ready Y/N? I got something for you to wear, put this on." He handed you a jersey that was way too big for you, and you threw it over your Northeastern sweatshirt.
"Thanks, Dev,"
"Of course Y/N, now let's go," he grabbed his bag and headed out the door, with you trailing behind him. He threw his bag in the trunk of the car and hopped in the front seat, you sat in the back.
"Sup Levi,"
"Sup, oh this is Y/N, I hope you don't mind that she tags along."
"No prob, I'm Dylan, nice to meet you Y/N,"
"Yeah you too," you smiled at the brunette. The three of you headed to the rink, when you arrived Devon guided you past security and gave you the ticket to the box you'd be sitting in with some other player family, and friends.
"Here's your pass Y/N, so we can meet up after the game, I'll see you around okay?"
"Good luck Dev," he hugged you then ran down to the locker room. You walked up to your box which was empty, just you and your thoughts. This was an important night for Devon, you couldn't let your feelings get in the way. Your thinking was interrupted as a group of girls walked in,
"Hey, it's the rookie," one grinned. You turned around at the sound of the voice, looking at the group, they each introduced themselves.
"I'm Y/N," you smiled.
"So how long have you and Devon been together?"
"Oh we aren't dating..." you explained. You blushed and rubbed the sleeve of his jersey with your thumb, the feelings you were trying to push down so you could enjoy the night ahead of you were brought back up.
"That's too bad you guys look cute," she pointed at your phone to see a picture of you and Devon after a game hugging. You sighed and began to explain your feelings. As you told your whole story, time passed quicker and you were starting to feel welcome in Buffalo. The game was about to start and you heard Devon's name announced as you saw him rush out of the tunnel by himself. You smiled watching him do his solo lap, looking happier than ever, you were so proud of him.
Your eyes were glued to the goal during the game you didn't even notice the girls trying to talk to you. The Sabres ended up winning 3-2, making you squeal for joy, all the girls surrounded you in the box giving you one big group hug. You smiled and began to tear up being so happy. You rushed down to the tunnel and showed your pass to security allowing you to get in. You heard shouting and other cheering from the locker room, you leaned against the wall waiting for Devon, your heart was racing, he was so happy could now be the moment you told him your feelings. Maybe the girls got into your head telling you to go for it and tell him, but you felt like nothing could ruin your spirits. Suddenly the locker room door opened and Devon came wobbling out, he put his bag down by the door and looked around until he found you.
"There she is!" he exclaimed. He opened up his arms for you to hug him. You ran over to see him as he scooped you up in his arms, causing your heart to beat even faster than it already was.
"I'm so proud of you," you exclaimed. You two stood there smiling at each other as he put you down, "I'm so glad you invited me."
"Yeah well, I didn't do it just to have my best friend see me play."
"Oh?" you questioned him.
"I wanted to ask you something... I know it's crazy, but the first day we met I fell for you, without even speaking to you yet the moment I saw you I knew I needed you in my life. So I don't know how you feel Y/N, but I love you, and I want to make you mine, so will you be mine Y/N, be my girlfriend?"
You were stunned by his confession, you had no idea he felt the same way about you. He began to look disappointed after watching you think of a response. He sighed and went back to his bags,
"Dev wait," you called out. He turned back around to face you, "I- I feel the same, I always have, I've liked you since we first met and I never said anything because I was afraid you didn't feel the same. So yes Dev, I will be your girlfriend." He walked back over to you pulling you into his arms.
"I can't believe your mine."
