A/N: Fair warning. There is smut in this chapter, so this book is now rated mature.  Also, this chapter is very long. (I did my best to edit it down. 😅)

I hope you enjoy! Thank you!! ❤️

That bastard. He played us like fools.

Just who the hell are you, Tobi?

Kakashi rolls onto his back in his sleeping bag. He stares straight ahead at the canopy of trees above, all while his fellow Konoha comrades rest peacefully around him.

It was only a few hours ago when they were so close to catching up to Sasuke. But Tobi, of all people, intercepted them.

Sighing, Kakashi sits up from his sleeping bag. There is no use finding any sleep tonight, not when his thoughts continue to roam like this. He looks around and sees that everyone is asleep, then stands and moves away from his spot on the ground. He makes sure not to wake up his sleeping companions as he weaves toward the outer edge of the campsite and heads into the forest.

.

Kakashi strolls through the trees, taking in the calming sounds of the forest and the fresh misty air. Occasionally, he hears the hooting of an owl or a nocturnal critter scurrying through the bushes. This place is similar to the woods surrounding Konoha, the kind of place he usually goes to let his feet wander and clear his head. He's been walking for almost an hour, when his thoughts return to the mission he failed earlier that day and to the mysterious Akatsuki member named Tobi.

It's been a few months since his first encounter with the masked man. Tobi visited him inexplicably in the middle of the night. He taunted him, flirted with him, and even crawled onto his lap and leaned close to give him a kiss. It was gentle and shy at first, then grew sensual and passionate, leaving Kakashi almost breathless and wanting more. He has a feeling Tobi felt the same way as well.

And then today, before disappearing into thin air, Tobi locked eye contact with him and looked at him in a way that felt so personal, like his reaction to Tobi's display of skill and power was the most important. To Kakashi, this was a strange occurrence, and it wasn't something he entirely hated either...

And that's the part that keeps bothering him.

He looks up and finds a small brook in the middle of the forest. There's a tree next to it, so he walks over and leans against it for balance. He runs his hand through his hair as an impulse to relieve tension, then looks up at the night sky.

That first meeting with Tobi and the mission he failed keeps wearing on his mind. It's natural for a person like him to obsess over his failures to improve–It's what makes him a good ninja. But there's something about Tobi he can't stop thinking about, a nostalgic familiarity that Kakashi can't explain.

But also, how Tobi acts toward him, the playful and almost sensual behavior, is what gets to him the most.

"That kiss...," Kakashi whispers to himself.

Absent-minded, he presses his fingers to his lips. The soft gesture brings back a memory that feels all too real, something he can't forget and stop puzzling over. What did that kiss really mean? Why did Tobi do that to him, of all people? What would have happened if Tobi had stayed longer? What if he was able to capture Tobi that time?

And... what if Tobi came to meet him again alone?

Something hot at the base of Kakashi's stomach spreads through his entire body. He tries to ignore it, not to mention the familiar aching down south in his groin. It's embarrassing to admit, but these carnal feelings always seem to spark when he recalls that incident with Tobi. Plus, those intricate fantasies he made up in his mind that definitely did not happen.
