Savannah's POV
Savannah plops down in one of the cozy chairs. She can hear the girls walking down the hall to join her. Savannah is very confused when her friends enter the study with Finley trailing behind. Why the fuck isn't she with Blake?
Cameron drops onto the couch that lies on the wall with the entrance. She lays out over the whole thing. Emma comes over and sits next to Savannah, she leans over and whispers, "Be nice." Oh bite me.
Riley sits in the loveseat opposite Savannah. With Cameron taking over the entire couch, the only spot left open is the chair next to Savannah... so Finley sits down right next to her.
It's been about 15 minutes, all the girls are sitting quietly, typing away on their computers. Riley does a dramatic sigh. Emma says, "What's up?" Riley states, "I only have calc to work on today, I've been playing Chess on my computer since we got in here" Cameron takes interest, "... so, like, why aren't you doing it?"
"I don't understand this whole hospital thingy," Riley pouts. Finley speak up, "You mean the L'Hôpital's rule?"
"Same thing," Riley responds with a shrug. "Right... well I could help." Of course she's so nice, god it's so frustrating that she's so perfect! Cameron sits up and walks over, "Wait yeah, Rivers you're the best in the class, could you go over a few homework problems, pretty pleaseeee?" Cameron is now on her knees, elbows propped up on the coffee table, chin resting on her hands. Emma and Riley giggle at her dramatics. Finley shakes her head and let's out a scuff that's mixed with a laugh, "Of course, Reed! If you guys are down we could all work on the problem set and get it over with for next week?" Emma and Riley nod excitedly and start to grab their calc binders from their backpacks. Savannah does not want to work on math right now but at least this way Finley and her won't need to spend all third and fourth period together.
The girls sitting in the loveseats all move down to the ground to sit closer to the coffee table. The coffee table, with all five girls crowding around it, seems impossible small. This leaves them all sitting with thighs touching. Savannah can feel her face go red as anger rises within her due to the feeling of Finley's leg touching her's. Savannah thanks the universe that Finley is wearing her usual corduroy pants so their skin isn't touching directly. That would be too much for Savannah.
Savannah's usually pretty good with schoolwork. These AP math classes were just more difficult than she was expecting. Thus, she remains quite for the majority of the calc discussion as she really doesn't understand what's being said. Savannah keeps peeking over at Emma's paper to jot down the work process needed for full credit. Finley while explaining how to work through the problems noticed that the girl next to her was struggling to keep up.
When the girls finish up the last problem, Savannah is upset with herself: not only does she have missing blanks in the steps needed to finish her assignment but also she didn't understand any of the work. She doesn't make a sound though, instead, just stuffing the paper back into her binder and going back to the loveseat to continue writing her History paper.
Cameron calls out to the girls that she wants a snack. She asked if anyone else wants anything to which Emma replies, "Yeah, I'll just come with." Savannah, Finley, and Riley shake their heads and there's a small chorus of "no I'm good" and "thank you" so the two leave for the kitchen. About 30 seconds later Riley gets up and states she has to go to the bathroom. Great, just leave me alone with her... can I even call these girls my best friends anymore?
Finley keeps taking subtle glances at Savannah. Being the extremely observant person Savannah is, she gets annoyed, "What?" she says quite aggressively. Finley clears her throat, "Here, you can fill out what you missed." Finley hands Savannah her calc problem set sheet while maintaining constant eye contact. Savannah shakes her head, annoyed, "No I don—" Finley cuts her off, "Seriously just take it, less stuff to do during free period anyway." For some reason unknowable to Savannah, Finley's features appear to display a teeny tiny amount of disappointment. Well that's odd.
Savannah takes the sheet of paper without a word, sets her computer aside, and goes to pull out her binder to finish up her paper.
Finley takes this as some sort of victory and as her reward she thinks she can openly stare at Savannah. "What?!" Savannah stops writing and looks up to make eye contact. "I know these words aren't in your vocabulary so I'll say it for you," Finley grins, "Thank you so much Finley, you are the best!" As she said that, her voice spikes as if to imitate Savannah and she finishes by batting her eyes at the other girl.
Savannah scuffs, "First off, fuck you. Secondly, I don't sound like that. And third, I see right through you... your whole sweet and innocent act around my friends is pathetic."
It's Finley's turn to scuff, "Well just to go over all your points there: starting at the bottom. I am sweet to the people who are nice to me. Secondly, you do sound like that. And to your first point, you'd just love that wouldn't you" She did not just insinuate that—, "Oh you little bitch, I-" Just then, all three girls that perviously left, file into the room. Fuck, I'm so gunna get my head chewed off.
All three look pissed. Cameron's the first to speak, "Savannah!" Jeez, my full name, this is bad. "I think you should leave." Cameron says and Savannah speaks barely above a whisper, "Like...," Cameron finishes for her, "Just go home, I'm sure Oz would love some time with you. We'll catch up at camp." Cameron's voice is rather deflated and far off.
Savannah looks over to Emma and Riley with a pleading expression, hoping one of them will help her out. But no, Riley can't seem to look at her and Emma has this sad look on her face as she shakes her head no.
Savannah throws she computer and binder in her backpack and stands up to leave. Just before she starts walking she turns to Finley and shoves Finley's filled out paper into her chest. Finley and Savannah lock eyes as Finley grabs the sheet. Finley's face is void of emotion, which Savannah thinks is the worst possible reaction. Without another word Savannah walks out of the room, purposely bumping Cameron's shoulder.
