Lucas POV
A Win or a Loss?
"Damn it!" I said out loud, as I shoved more people out of my way to get to the front, but then I stopped.
Wait, what am I doing?
I thought for a moment, well aware I couldn't just sit back and do nothing either. Vince was sort of a friend of mine. He was the dorky little sophomore kid that was smart enough to take junior and senior courses. We talked and even worked at the same place together. If I had a friend at this school, he was it.
But what the hell can I do?
"Now clean this mess up, you little twerp!" Eric commanded, looking back at the crowd to show off his dominion of the school, for the millionth time. "You like bumping into people? You like making messes, twerp? Then learn to pick them up!"
Vince trembled in fear as he prepared himself for what was to come. It was really all the poor kid could do. Only a few people in the crowd seem to enjoy watching Eric picking on him, laughing at the fact it wasn't them he was beating up. Assholes. Others just pretended like it was funny, for their own sakes. Tools. The rest watched in disgust and sympathy, but did nothing about it. Useless.
As Eric continued on with his little game, his friends sat behind, bored and quiet as usual. Not very surprising considering the fact that this was probably just part of their regular routine. Andrew and Anthony, were a pair of cute twins, though very different when it came to talent. Anthony was the school's star athlete. He was the loud, energetic type. Andrew was the school's smartest student. He was the clever, and deceptive, type. Then there was Michele, the tall, intimidating silent one, whose mysterious background was his greatest weapon. Rumor had it his father was on top of the "organized crime business" in town, but those were only rumors. All three of them also came from wealthy, higher class families, probably why they had gravitated towards Eric in the first place.
"Hey! I said clean this up!" Eric cried out, ready to kick Vince on the side.
"Fuck off, Eric!" The crowded all gasped and turned as I ran up to block the blow. "Leave the kid alone."
No one had ever stood up to him like that. Obviously. Causing him to freeze in disbelief.
"Who the hell do you think you are?" He asked me, as I picked Vince up and shoved him into the crowd so he'd get lost before I beat him up.
"I said fuck off, asshole." I had no intentions of involving myself any further with this guy, though I knew he wouldn't just let me walk away from this either.
Knowing exactly what Eric would do, I began to walk away, and just as expected, he tried to punch me while I had my back turned. Dodging him, I turned back to return the favor by kicking him on the knee. It wasn't much, though I did manage to make him flinch. Once he regained his balance though, he tried to punch me again, but he missed. He failed to realize that, while he might have been bigger and stronger than me, I was much quicker.
He continued to come at me, always making the first move. I continued to dodge and land a few hits here and there. At some point it must have looked as if we were dancing. It was that ridiculous. By now, everyone was on their toes, unsure how this match would end. Even his friends had gotten up in excitement.
"I don't know who the hell you are, but you're dead!" Frustrated and impatient, he ran up to deliver a final blow, but he underestimated my speed, yet again.
Before I knew it, I landed a shot, knocking him to the ground.
With that out of the way, I headed back to my original destination. As I did, however, I noticed the crowd scrambling away from me. I'll admit that it took me a few minutes to actually realize myself what had just happened.
I just beat up the toughest guy in school. Does that mean I'm the toughest now?
By no means was that true, but that didn't stop other people from wondering the same thing. Throughout the rest of the day, everywhere I'd go, people would turn back to look at me and whisper, but none dared to bother me. Many of them were noticing me for the first time. Just like that, I had become instantly famous, or infamous, depending on who you asked. It suddenly seemed as if I could walk, or sneeze, without someone trembling with fear. Perhaps people were beginning to wonder if I would become the new Eric of the school. Or maybe they knew I would be dead meat once Eric got back on his feet and came up with an actual plan to finish me off.
