Lucas POV

Date?

Staring out the window, I saw how the rain gradually grew heavier and heavier.

To think I still have to go to work after this, I thought to myself.

The rain would probably lighten up though by the time school ended, so I really didn't have a reason to be too bummed by it.

"I'd hate to be caught in rain like this right now," I spoke out loud, shifting my attention to the sheet of paper in front of me. "Ugh, I'm just running out of ideas now, aren't I?"

"Um, Lucas?" Will interrupted me, leaning over to get my attention. "Oh, are you done with your essay? I wanna read it!"

Before I could do anything about it, he picked up the paper in front of me and began reading, slowly realizing he was trying to make sense out of gibberish.

"It's not my essay," like it should have been, "it's just a crappy poem I wrote."

"You're into poetry now? I thought you had gone into music?"

"Quit." I replied back. "Joined the Poetry Club instead, but I don't think that'll last long either."

Rolling the sheet of paper into a ball, Will saved me the trouble by throwing my work away in the trash for me. It was a bit unnecessary in my opinion, but it wasn't like it had been that important to begin with.

"Well I hope that means you'll be free this weekend then," Will returned, sitting even closer towards me. "Do you have any plans this weekend?"

"No," I replied confused, pushing him slightly away from me with no remorse. "Why?"

"Oh, I just wanted to know if you wanted to go on a date this Saturday?"

"What?" He had asked so bluntly that I didn't really believe he was serious at first.

"Well?" Will continued to wait for an answer, giving me a creepy look on purpose.

"Honestly Will..." How could I put it lightly? "...I'll have to pass, indefinitely."

For a second, he paused and I thought it might start raining inside the room as well, but he smirked at me and started laughing instead.

"Ha! Not with me, silly." He continued giggling to himself like the little girl he was on the inside. "With my cousin."

"Your cousin?"

"Yeah," He quickly took out his phone and pulled up a picture. "His family is actually coming over this weekend to visit mine and he asked me if I could find him a date."

Out of curiosity, I took the phone from Will's hand and had a closer look at this cousin. From what I could tell, he was a pretty decent looking guy, probably just as old as me, if not older. The picture looked a bit too clean for me to really buy into it though.

"That's just his profile picture," Will clarified things, "so, what do you think?"

To be honest, he seemed interesting enough to at least check out, but something was making me hesitate.

"Oh wait," Will suddenly began to panic, taking back his phone, acting like he had just made a huge mistake by asking, "you and Eric... Are you guys—"

"Going out?" I finished his sentence for him.

"I'm sorry," Will apologized, fanning himself with his notebook paper, as if it were really a big deal or something. "I knew you guys were... you know, but I just assumed you weren't that serious about each other."

"We're not." I made it clear to Will. "We have been messing around a bit lately, but it's nothing serious."

"Oh," He simply replied, his attitude on the subject completely changing. "Well then, would you like to go out with my cousin this Saturday night? Oh pretty please. I won't be here this weekend so he'll have no one to hang out with. Besides, I'm sure you'll have lots of fun with him."

"Wait, you won't be in town while your family is over?"

"Uh-uh." Will took a second to think. "I had already planned to go visit an old friend out of town. I've already got my ticket and everything. So, could you?"

"Ugh, why not."

"Great!" Will shouted, getting back to work.

Thinking about it more and more, I began to wonder if it was really a good idea to go on a date with a guy. I knew immediately that Eric would probably have something to say about it, not that it was really any of his business.

It's not like the thing between me and Eric is that serious anyways.
