It's the morning, 5 am. The sun is shyly rising, chasing the night. Midgar was peacefully sleeping, as peaceful as Midgar can be. Most of the people are still resting, enjoying the last hours of the night. You? You are awake, not like you've really slept anyway. Your body didn't require a lot of rest and whenever you started to fall asleep, horrible pictures and memories would assault you right away, forcing you to wake up.

You live in a very small flat. It only had a simple bed, a mirror, a closet, and the strictly necessary. There also were some books here and there, mainly poetry books. You liked poetry a lot, it helped you think and clear your mind. After staring outside from your window for endless minutes, you stand up and look at yourself in the mirror. You're wearing a blue cape with a materia on it, allowing you to summon your weapon at will. Under, you have a gray T-shirt and pants that have a bit of mud and dirt on them. You have metallic combat gloves and gray boots. You have an earring on your left ear and beautiful abnormal 'blue' eyes along with (h/l) (h/c) hair. Your skin is (s/c) and your height is on average. You're not small nor tall in your opinion, but you have no idea what your exact height is.

Sighing, you started to head to the door, until a strange feeling submerged you and forced you to stop in your track. It felt...foreign. Like a feeling that did not belong to you, but to someone else. Like someone or something was pulling you to feel this emotion. It felt like...a warning, like a signal to tell you that something was going to happen, a mysterious power that pushed you to worry about something that you did not even know was in danger. It felt very odd, you did not know who this feeling was belonging to, but you were at least sure that this was not your own. After some minutes, the strange aura and feeling died down, and you decided to ignore it for now, you could not bother to stay in your flat anyway, and with what happened just now, you thought that the best thing to do would be to go outside and change your mind. You went out of the flat complex. It was 7:07 am in Sector 5 Slum. You were what you could call a merc, you defeated monsters, and in exchange, the people gave you Gils, depending on the difficulty and the time of the task.

It wasn't hard, the monsters like the Wererats, the Gorgers, and the Ringmaws were what you usually had to fight. You sometimes had to fight Rust Drakes; those creatures always steal everything shiny. From Gils to jewelry et cetera...

It was rarer, but you were sometimes asked to fight against some Bandits from the Sector 6 slums. Apart from the fact that they sometimes outnumbered you, you managed to take them down quite easily. And that was practical because if you ever get hurt or something of the like, you had no idea where you would find a healing materia or healing supplies down here.

You were walking around the slums when something caught your attention. You saw someone entering the old church followed by three troopers. You didn't have the time to see who the first person was. The only thing you managed to catch was a glimpse of red hair. 'Not someone from here' you thought. You lived here for a long time already, and with the years passing, you grew accustomed to the people living there, having a good memory helped you a lot to memorize their faces and names. So, you could say with enough assurance that you have never seen anyone with bright red hair in the slums before.

'Strange... plus why is he accompanied by troopers...? That announce nothing good'. It was indeed strange to see a lot of Shinra's troops in the same place, especially in the slums. Usually, you do not see any, and the rare ones that patrolled here were usually seen alone or in duos; but never in formations of 5 or more with some strange guy. The only time you remembered that you saw something similar was at the arrestation of a so-called "Avalanche member", or something of the likes, you never really heard of this name before, not that you were interested in it for that matter.

'I do have a bad feeling about this, might as well go see what's going on inside. But I can't enter by the front door. This means that I have to pass by the hole in the roof, I hope this is nothing important'.

To do that, you had to climb on the rooftops of what could barely be called houses. Lucky you, there was a neglected ladder that allowed access to the rooftop of the church just in front of the hole in it. You then got inside the church, you were cautious to not make any sounds and made your way to the main room where the people below you were. The wooden beam, thanks to your great equilibrium, allowed you to have a view of everything that was happening below without risking falling. The red-haired man was there, along with the three troopers from earlier. You were now able to take a better look at the man and realized that he was nothing else but a Turk, judging by his uniform and all. You saw him walk toward the back of the room, where some sort of flower bed was along with a girl. From where you stood, you could see her quite well. She has light brown hair with a pink ribbon on it. She has green eyes, and her skin was beige. She is wearing a shin-length pink dress with a red bolero jacket. She has brown boots and three metal bracelets on her wrist. It wasn't hard to understand that they were here for her and not the flowers.

"Soooo, Aerith... I don't see your 'bodyguard' anywhere... forgetting his job uh?" the Turk said.

'So, her name is Aerith' you thought.

"You wish, Cloud just went out to buy things that I asked him to go get for me. He'll be here in no time!" Said the girl, Aerith.

"But he'll be too late for you love." He then gestures to the troopers behind him to take the girl. They started to move toward her.

And that's when it strikes again. You felt like a pull at your heart and began to be invaded with this feeling that did not belong to you. It made you shiver. This feeling was much stronger than the first. It wasn't a feeling of warning anymore, but a strong want to help, save this girl that you just meet. You did not understand why this was happening, nor how, but at this moment you just knew that you had to help her.

Has much as you don't want to have anything to do with Shinra, you weren't going to let this 'Aerith' be taken to whatever place they were going to take her, not when you were able to save her. As little as you knew, you were at least certain that nothing good will result in letting them catch her, plus, maybe she'll have an answer as to what is happening to you. You stood up from your crouched position and jumped, landing in front of Aerith, just between her and the troopers. Everyone was shocked and the red-haired man let out an annoyed groan.

"And WHO are you?!" Said the Turk "If you think you can interfere, then you're in the wrong sweetheart."

"I wasn't going to watch you take her against her will without doing anything." You said to him.

"I don't need another burden on my conscience." You said in a whisper, looking down at your hand.

"And how are you going to do that without a weapon uh?" He said smirking "Go take the girl, and don't make me repeat myself."

You then summoned your sword and got into a fighting stance.

"Oh no you don't." said the Turk in what you think is an irritated voice.

"Hum..., thank you I guess?" Said Aerith.

"No need to thank me, I am just doing what is right, furthermore, I haven't done anything yet. So please, don't." You said not looking at her, focusing on the enemies in front of you. Aerith then nodded her head, and the troopers began to fire at you.

And thus, the fight began.
