Ian's POV

'Am I finally free?' I thought as I flew through the air, entertaining both myself and my friends. No answer was expected, but it was given anyway.

I think so, yah

My wings faltered, soon picking back up.

"D-derp?" I spoke out loud, scared. My flight was slower than before. "I thought you were go-"

Geez, quiet down dude. I can hear your thoughts. You don't actually have to move your food hole. Gawd.

'Well, this guy's rude.' I thought.

I can still hear you, ya' knob head.

'Sorry! Sorry... forgot...'

Thank you

'but it's true...'

Oh, Ian. The voice in my head laughed. Do you even know what's going on?

'To be honest, no clue. Please explain.'

Okay. It began The angel you've grown to call Derp had became corrupted when you performed the eye surgery as a child. He was originally sent as both a test and a protector to help guide you through your world of darkness, a gift to an unfortunate child. He poured all his love and trust into you, trust me, he would tell us stories of his beloved Champion -that's you by the way- every night while you slept, as that's the only time we can leave heads. You were like a brother to him. But, of course, he couldn't ever tell you that. No sir-e, it's against the guardian rules and guide lines, of which we literally can't break. Believe me though, through everything, he always loved you.

One night, though, he came in looking worried. Once he told us the news of the surgery, his sadness was understood. He knew you wouldn't need him any more after it, so he'd have to leave you. He wanted to make you change your mind, mess with your head and trick you, but messing with your Champions head for greed, and not for their benefit , is against the unbreakable rules. So, with that in mind, he tried to convince you. Ignoring him and having the surgery saddened him. He thought you didn't love him. The one person he loved most, over anyone else by a million times over, his brother, didn't love him.

Guilt was settling in.

He was both sad and angered by your betrayal, but he still loved you. When the surgery was performed, he wouldn't leave you. He couldn't get him self to part, as it was seen to him as abandonment. We stopped hearing from him that day. He broke the unbreakable rule. Doing so, he was corrupted, half torn apart, only leaving his power and anger. You know the rest, as he was in you. Or at least, some of him.

After a while, it was discovered that with every time Derp was released, he would get more and more powerful. Every one he saw was, to him, trying to take his Champion away, obstacles to his goal, so he would try to get rid of them. With every time Derp was released, it would be more and more difficult to stop him. The only way to stop him was to get him to see what his greed had done to his precious Champion, what he'd done. In doing so, Derp gave up. Seeing that only harm could come to you and those you see as brothers, so he left you. But, he was no more than a figment of anger and greed, sewn with power, so when he left you, all that really left you was his anger, greed, and power, leaving behind his cheer, generosity, and weakness. Now, he's still in your head, but as the opposite as before. He will always be there to guide you, as an apology to what he'd done. As you may tell, you have his wings, and you always will. They're here to help you escape from the coffin he'd locked you in. He will always be there for you, as he had always loved you.

His words had distracted me, intriguing me with his tales. I would have crashed a couple times, but it was almost as if my wings were flying themselves. There was so much to think about now, almost too much, until the voice said 3 more words.

I still do.

Now that threw me way off. 'You're Derp?!'

I prefer the name SSundee. Derp is a monsters name.

I dove back down to Earth, overwhelmed by the news. 'He's not gone.'

Yes he is. Gone for good. Trust me.

Once I had landed back on Earth, I noticed how much I just wanted to sleep.

'How do you get rid of these things?' I asked SSundee, somehow sounding annoyed in my own head.

Just shut your eyes for a sec, and relax your shoulders. That should do the trick.

As I did what I was told, I could feel the wings sinking into my back with a slight sting. Walking past my friends, I told them where I is was off to.

"I'm going to bed. I'll see you dudes later."

The door shut behind me with a slam, making me jump. The stairs creaked ever so gently in the silent house. The hall echoed with almost silent, yet strange sounds coming from Jerome's room. I didn't care. Entering my room had never felt so good. My bed warm slightly chilled from the breeze of the AC, but I didn't care. To me it was perfect.

As I was drifting off into a well deserved dream land, a sudden loud noise shook me wide awake. "I'M AN AMPHIBIAN!" I heard Quentin yell from downstairs. 'SSundee must be gone, he said he leaves at night.' I waited for a response to correct me, but none came. He was gone.

Being wide awake but having both nothing to do and no energy to do anything with, I switched on the bed side lamp. Looking around my room, memories were reborn. The closet I hid in to avoid the Nerf gun attack on my first day. The vent I listened through. Some how, these memories gave me both hope and happiness. I smiled. Soon happy memory after happy memory started to replay themselves in my head, from my whole live through. For what seemed like the first time in decades, I was finally, truly happy.
