   Chapter 1

Alone. That is exactly what I was. Always have been, always will be. Yes, I know, that sounds a bit harsh to be the truth, but it is true. Both my parents died when I was just one years old, so I have no memories of them like what they look like or sound like or their personality. My name is Katsya Isabella. I am an orphan. I’ve been adopted a total of seven times and I was never kept. Not because I was a bad child, but because they weren’t proper parents. Some of them used me as a house maid and wouldn’t feed me or ever care about me or love me. And the parents that didn’t treat me like that would beat me. I have never been loved before. I go to a public school where I get treated no different. I’ve always heard sayings like “Life isn’t fair but someday it will be” but I never believed because it clearly wasn’t true. I’m turning 18 in two days. I will finally become a legal adult and I can leave this horrendous adoption agency. I will have freedom and I can create my own life and try to be my own person. Happy. And I knew this is exactly what I have always wanted and it was just two more days until I can be me.

“Katsya?”  The lead adoption agency lady named Eliza said.                        “WHAT!” I screamed from the top floor. “Are all of your belongings packed up and ready to put in the moving truck? It’s time for you to go see your new apartment! All to yourself!” She said while widely grinning. “Yep!!” I said overly excited. “Then let’s go!” I am so excited. My birthday isn’t for one more day but I’m moving out of the adoption agency today so I can celebrate my birthday however I please tomorrow.

There it was. My brand new, surprisingly spacious apartment. With two bedrooms and one beautiful huge bathroom. The walls were of course painted white along with the ceiling but the floor was amazingly very fuzzy and soft like a kitten. The carpet was teal colored and my bedroom was purple. The kitchen had light pretty yellow walls and a white ceiling and the extra room is green. This apartment was the most colorful one I had ever seen in my entire life! I was so excited. Suddenly there was a knock on the door.  Really!?  I haven’t unpacked one thing yet and I’m already being bothered? Ugh. “Hey. I’m Camden Burke. But you can call me Cade. I’m guessing your Katsya?” Said Cade. He’s my new neighbor. Directly straight across from my door. “Hi! Yes I am Katsya. It’s very nice to meet you. I’m glad to see I won’t be alone in this building. I’m glad to know somebody this soon!” I said. “Yeah. Me too. I moved in two weeks ago and I don’t know anybody yet. Nobody came and talked to me and I figured you and I could be friends so neither of us would be alone…” Cade said but trailed off at the end. “Really? Oh wow I think you may be the nicest and most considerate person I’ve ever met! What are you doing tomorrow?” I asked. “Absolutely nothing! Like always. Why?” Cade asked. “Well, tomorrow is my birthday and I’m turning 18 so I was wondering if you wanted to hang out with me so I wouldn’t be bored considering you are the only person I’m friends with!” I said. “Absolutely! Sounds super fun! Can I get your number so you can tell me when to come over tomorrow?” Cade asked. “Of course! Here let me see your phone.” I said as he handed me your phone and I typed in my number. “There you go. Text me! See you later! Bye!” I said. “Alright! Bye!” Cade said right before I closed my door.                                                                   * 10 minutes later *

From: Unknown Number-

“Hey! It’s Cade! What time would you like to come over tomorrow?”

Oh. So Cade texted me. I’m going to save his number in my phone. Alright. Oh! I should probably text him back…

To: Cade

“Hey. How about 10am so we can have a full amazing day and not miss a single second?” I sent back.

About 30 seconds later I felt my phone go off again and I saw he had already texted me back. Wow. He is really fast.

From: Cade

“Will do! See you then! Can’t wait!” He said. Well I guess that’s the end of our conversation. After that I sat my phone in my bedroom to charge on my bedside table which had been donated to me by the adoption agency along with every other type of furniture and appliance and electronics you could possibly dream of. I had everything I needed. It took me about two hours but I finally finished unpacking and making everything absolutely perfect and neat and in place. For once I felt a sense of being complete for the first time in my life. And it felt really nice. I actually felt kind of happy which is a feeling I had pretty much never felt and I was really loving the feeling of it now. I graduated high school two months ago and didn’t feel happy just because of the fact that I knew I wasn’t going to be going to college. I really want to go to college but I can’t afford so I just won’t be going. The only thing I didn’t have is a car. And even though I was given a lot of money to live off of until I got a job, I can’t afford to spend it on a car or college. Just food and clothes. Pretty much regular everyday essentials at that. The adoption agency is paying my rent for the apartment for the whole time I live here to make up for all of the pain I went through and never getting actual parents to live a life with. I am actually off to a really great start with my independent new life. I’ve got an amazing new friend, a wonderful place to live and lots of money to live off of and I don’t even have to pay rent for this beautiful place! All I wish for now is a car. That is all I need before I can get a job and really get a big jumpstart on my new life. No more worries. Everything is great now. And besides, what are the odds that something could go wrong at this point?
