Chapter 4: Dream State

At the Bunker

Dean, Maya, and Lucifer were sitting and looking at the footage

Dean was on the phone and says "I haven't found anything on these surveillance cameras. I mean, it's like they just disappeared. How about you? Any of the local beat cops see anybody that shouldn't be there?"

Castiel says on the phone "It's pretty rural. Not a lot of 'beat cops'. I've checked all the motels, and abandoned buildings. There's no sign of Sam."

Dean says "All right. I don't know, you know, check real estate offices. See if anybody bought a place, or rented a place. I mean, these people had a freakin' plane. Maybe they do things legit."

Castiel says "Okay. I understand. I'll call you in the morning."

Dean says "Oh, Cass, hey. So, here's the thing. It's been kinda weird here, with, you know...  Mom being back. It's like we don't know how to act around each other. So, we just kinda make this small talk and act normal. But, it's so not normal."

Castiel says "I'm... I'm not sure. What... What has she said to you?"

Dean says "Well, nothing. I mean, that... that's the whole point."

Castiel says "Okay, well, what have you said to her?"

Dean says "Well, nothing. I don't know what to say to her, you know. It's... it's like it's all just too much. And I don't want to overwhelm her."

Castiel says "Don't make things needlessly complicated as you humans tend to do. I'll call you."

Dean says "Yeah."

He ends the call and says "Great. That's helpful. Thanks."

Mary comes in a robe and says "Any news on Sam?

Lucifer says "I hate to say it, but, no, Mama Winchester. All we know is somewhere outside of Aldrich, Missouri."

Mary says "Mama Winchester?"

Lucifer says "You are their mother? Aren't you?"

Mary says "Yeah. Oh, never mind."

Lucifer says "Cass is goin' through it with a fine-toothed comb."

Dean says "And I've cracked every database I could."

Mary says "Every what?"

Lucifer says "A date base is where someone keeps information. Like Cops, FBI, CIA, and all government officials."

Mary says "Oh."

Mary asks "So, are you really afraid of overwhelming me?"

Dean looks at her and slowly nods and says "Mom, look, I am... thrilled that you're back. I mean, I am so damn happy I can't even stand it."

Mary says "I just... It's just gonna take me a second... To catch up, you know."

Dean says "Yeah. No, no. Look, take... Take all the time you need. All right? It's... It is what it is."

Mary says "And when we do find Sam... How am I gonna face him?"

Dean asks "What do you mean?"

Mary says "That yellow-eyed thing would never have come for him that night if I... I started all of this."

The next morning

Lucifer was in bed. 

Maya walks in and shakes him and says "Lucifer. Come on, you said you'd find Sam."

Lucifer says "Winchester. Why can't you just let me sleep, for a little bit? I'm... tired."

Maya says "Angels, don't get tired."
